On 13 October 1856, Letitia Carruth, age 74, a citizen of Benton County Alabama applied
for a widow's Rev. War Pension as the widow of Alexander Carruth, "late of
Rutherford County, North Carolina" who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War
belonging to the North Carolina militia. She stated he served in two tours but was
uncertain of his specific service. She was married to Alexander Carruth on the 12th day of
May 1818 and that her husband died on 30th August 1827. A copy of their marriage bond
states her name was Letitia Scott and John Lankford also signed the marriage bond. William
Scott of Benton County, Alabama made a deposition for her application. The date of death
of the applicant was April 26, 1870.
