Hello,
On page three of my web page found at:
http://hometown.aol.com/harvey33/Page1.html
are some records I found at the
ancestry.com
site showing some of the Carruth family from
the time period between 1770-1778. These
records come from the, "TRYON COUNTY,
NORTH CAROLINA MINUTES OF THE COURT OF
PLEAS AND QUARTER SESSIONS 1769-1779."
From these records you can find other surnames
that were very
close to the Carruth family including
Logan, Huggins, Sloan, and Beatey. The link to page
three is found at the bottom of this web page.
One of the records found here is the sale of land
from John Sloan, Jr., to Adam Carruth in 1773. A
couple of other records found here that are
interesting show Robert Carruth being ordered to
serve as a Constable in 1778 and appointed to,
"collect and gather," the taxes the same year.
It is not clear whether this Robert Carruth is the
son Adam Carruth or Alexander Carruth, who both
immigrated to America from Northern Ireland and
named one of their sons Robert. These two Robert
Carruths are found in a good number of records in
North Carolina around the area our ancestors settled
after migrating there from Lancaster, Pa. Rowan
County had been the area where all the Carruth family
settled after migrating from Pa. This group included the
family of Adam, Walter, and Alexander Carruth, along
with the Huggins family (Mary Carruth, sister
of the above named brothers, and wife of John).
Adam Carruth moved to Mecklenburg County from
Rowan County in 1762.
Best Wishes,
Harvey Carrouth
