The Carruth name has likely always been the Carruth name. They were never Campbells. The
only other name may have been Corraith. It is believed they began in the hamlet of
Corraith, Ayrshire County. They moved inland and settled in Renfrewshire where the lands
of Carruth remain to this day. This is according to Douglas Carruth of Renfrewshire.
According to Arthur Carruth who wrote a book about the Carruths several decades ago and
researched it for years, the Carruth name was always and only the Carruth name. Victor
Carruth of Dublin stated the same about 10 years ago. Since Doublas lives in the area and
researched it as well, what he stated about the family beginning in Corraith is very
plausible. He stated he found the information in a book, but when he went back to source
the book for his research, he couldn't find it.
