I have a picture of a Carruth that fought in the Civil War. He has a confederate uniform
on and I am trying to find out the true identity of this man and how he ties in with the
Hovers and Brock families. I have reason to believe he may be James Carruth of Georgia,
but I have also been told he was Sam Carruth. They were from Dallas Mountain in Georgia,
or have family still living there. Anyone that can help me please contact me, I will share
the picture with you and see if we can identify him and connect him to the families.
Thanks,
Diane

Could you send a copy of the picture to me, if you don't mind. Our family of
Carruth's is Alexander and Nancy (Elkins) Carruth. They had a son named James born in
Georgia and died in 1893 Alabama. His brother William went on to Arkansas and died, his
wife was Mary Ann Stovall. Many of the children later settled into Ruston, Louisiana, but
a couple of the children remained here. One Nancy "Nannie" married Robert Hill,
and this was her second marriage after being a widow of Wm Powell. Her brother Benjamin
Carruth married Emma Harris and his family remains here in Bradley County Arkansas.
On another note: James B. Herndon married Emily Powell b. 1876 Georgia
