Val, found the following that may help:
James W Carruth
1900 Census
Rexburg, Fremont, Idaho
James W Carruth 28 listed born in Utah, father in Scotland, and mother in Wales
Catherine Carruth 20 listed born in Utah, father in Denmark, and mother in Sweden
Mary E Carruth 1
- - -
1910 United States Federal Census
Bramwell, Canyon, Idaho
James W Carruth 39 born in Utah
Kate Carruth 30 born in Utah
Mary E Carruth 11 born in Utah
Frank L Carruth 7 born in Idaho along with others listed below
Edward Carruth 6
Eldon C Carruth 3
Lelia B Carruth 10/12
- - -
Frank L. Carruth is listed on the 1920 Census in San Francisco, as a soldier (listed with
a group of other soldiers).
- - -
Frank L. Carruth is shown on the 1930 Census in Oregon, Multnomah County, living with wife
Pearl C. and son Francis, 4 years old. They were living with Pearl's mother, Caroline
T. Dupuy (unsure of last name spelling). Can be found on enumeration district 217, sheet
number 5B (top right corner). Election Precinct 173. House number 125.
- - -
In the Oregon death index:
Carruth, James Allison 8 Nov 1996 Multnomah County

The birth places for James W Carruth, his father and mother, and his birth date match for
James William Carruth found in the Carruth Family book, Chapter O, on page 226. There
James is shown born 04 July 1871 in Mill Creek, Utah, with his father being James, born in
Birkenhead, Scotland, 1816 and his mother being Jemina Jones, born in Wales about 1826.
James was a twin to William and he was baptized to the Mormon Church while in Scotland
along with brothers and sisters and sailed with them on the Carnatic in 1848, to America.
The one thing that does not add up is that James William is shown married to Mary A.
Hanson 08 Sep 1898. I found the following for a James W Carruth and Mary:
1930 Census
Pringle, Marion, Oregon
James W Carruth 59, born in Utah, father shown born in Scotland and mother in United Sates
Mary A Carruth 50, born in Utah, father shown born in Denmark and mother in Utah
Dilla M Carruth 17 (unsure of spelling for first name)
Edward E Carruth 24
Edna L Carruth 15
Ella R Carruth 8
Therlm M Howard 10 (unsure of relationship, "something" daughter)
- - -
James and Mary show being married at 27 and 17 so the above marriage date works for them.
- - -
It could be that Mary A. Hanson, shown here, Kate, and Catherine are the same. The ages
add up.
- - -
The 1910 Census shows James W Carruth born in Utah, father shown born in Scotland and
mother in Utah.
- - -
Not sure if the above is your group since I don't see Frank with them, but there is
Edward about the same age or close to and the younger children could have been born after
the 1910 Census.
- - -
There is a group listed living in Utah and are probably related. Very good documentation
is found on this group if you can connect. If it is your family then you definitely have
a prize to collect in purchasing the book and seeing the information there for your family
and extended Carruth family as a whole. Have been in touch with others that connect with
the group found in Chapter O. Maybe someone from this branch of the Carruth family can
offer more information that may help here.
Best Wishes,
Harvey C.
