Message Board Post:
Hello Robin,
It has been a while since you posted your message. Hope you checked the, "send me an
e-mail when anyone replies to this message," box. Your question leads to others and
is a work in progress.
It is very possible that James Caruth who married Anne, is a descendant from James that
died in Antrim County in Ballymartin Parish. Clonoe Parish is Armagh County. James that
married Anne, was living in Tyrone County. However, when you compare the distant between
the three counties listed here, it is a very short distance. If James, that married Anne,
is not a descendant of James that died in Ballymartin Parish, then he is likely a
descendant of one of his brothers or Uncles (or other close kin).
Which brings us back to a larger question that has been a theme between this board and a
few mail list that have been running regarding this family over the last several years.
The question being, are we related. That is if my name is Caruth and your name is
Carruth, Corruth, Carrouth, etc., are we related.
Along the same line, the question comes up of one family moving to America from one county
in Ireland and another family moving from one next to it, and are these families with the
same last name or similar names, related. Also, the same question as the last one except
instead of neighboring counties being the difference, Ireland and Scotland are the
difference.
I have posted some information on this and continue to look for information concerning
these questions. I am interested in pursuing these questions on this board and through
the corresponding Carruth mail list from Rootsweb, as well as the Carruth Genforum message
board, with those that are interested.
Best Wishes,
Harvey Carrouth
