Here is some possible matching information for the messages shown below (I repeat "possible").
Alford Carruth was born in either in Ga. or NC depending on if he was born when his father Adam moved to Ga. which was about the time that Alford was born, about 1794. I have some records showing him born in Ga. in 1795. Alford was the oldest grandson of Robert Carruth and Robert's father was Adam Carruth who was one of three brothers that came to America from Antrim Co., Ireland, about 1729 (Adam's brothers that came to America about the same time were Walter and Alexander). Alford served in the War of 1812 and was still in Madison County, Ga., in 1840, the same County that his father lived and grandfather had finally settled in before dying.
By 1850, Alford had moved to Mississippi, where he is found on the Census in Lafayette County listed as 59 years old along with his wife Rebecca, 53 (who was the daughter of Edward Echols, Sr.), and son Alford, Jr., 17.
Living next door to him is his son Leland Pinckney Carruth, who was born in Ga. and is listed as age 26. Listed with Leland is his wife Matilda, 18, son Crawford, 7 months, and brother Wilborn, 14. Both Leland and family and Alford and family are listed as "Caruth" on this Census record.
The 1880 Census for Louisiana, Vernon, 5th And 6th Ward, District 48, shows Leland and family living beside son Crawford and family. Shown there as Leland P. Caruth, he is listed as 56, his wife is listed as (looks like) Margaret, 52, a son named Charles, and two daughters whose names I can not make out, one is possibly named Salina. Crawford Carruth is listed as 30 and his wife is Francis, 28. Their children are listed as Nathaniel, 7, Elizabeth, 5, and John, 1.
The 1900 Census for Louisiana, Vernon, Police Jury Ward 6, District 103, shows Francis, 48, as head of the family, so Crawford must have passed on.
Children listed are:
Nathaniel Caruth 28
John M Caruth 20
Lucy M Caruth 18
Charles A Caruth 15
Abner T Caruth 13
Crawford D Caruth 10
Apparently Elizabeth had gotten married since the 1880 Census and Crawford and Francis had 4 more children.
John is noticeably missing too and this connects to what is shown below when he (or possibly it is him) is shown married to Alice on the 1900 Census.
If this is a match, I hope it helps someone. I am not saying it is a match, but is a possibility. Of coarse we are all responsible for checking out and verifying research so do the math so to speak before using this information.
Take care and Best Wishes,
Harvey
Ps. - If this is a match for you, then I can give you some more information on your family. Alford, listed above, is a brother of my 3rd Great Grandfather, James Elbert Carruth.

Today I found on the 1900 Census for Louisiana, Rapides County, Calcasieu, District 131, enumerated 15 June 1900, John Carruth, born Feb. 1880, age 20 and Alice Carruth, born (looks like July) 1874, age 25, both born in Louisiana. Key information also reported here that you may not have besides where they were both born is that John's father was born in Georgia and his mother was born in Alabama. Alice's father was born in Alabama and her mother was born in Mississippi. If I were looking for John's father and could not find him in Louisiana, I would look next in Alabama. Hope this helps anyone looking for information on this family.
Best Wishes,
Harvey

Hello Roy,
Based on the information given, I can't help you at this time. Do you have
any other information on Otis. Possibly a date of birth, who his parents or
siblings were, or any other information? I did try and help someone
concerning "Otis O. Carruth" and posted some information I found trying to help them
at the Carruth rootsweb message board. The message can be found using the
following addresses (hope it works today, if not, just go to the board and look
for messages about Otis O. Carruth):

If the Otis Carruth found here is the same Otis Carruth that you are asking
for information about, then I can tell you that his father was John A.
Carruth. I can not tell you who his grandfather was at this time.
Best Wishes,
Harvey
Ps. - If anyone else can help Roy, please respond if you have info. and
thanks!!
