My G. grandfather was Joseph Erb Carothers, b. June 1849, PA. and was raised
in Antis Twp., Blair Co. PA. According to the 1860 Blair Co. PA census, his
grandfather, William Carothers, lived with the family & Joseph was the s/o
William & Anna Maria__ Carothers, brother of Jacob, Margaret, Robert, Elmira,
Jackson and probably other siblings; husband of Alice Kephart of Clearfield, and
the father of John F., Edward, Harry, Bertha Alice, and Elizabeth May Carothers,
who were born & raised in Osceola Mill, Clearfield. Joseph Erb Carothers,
(the subject) served in the Civil War at a very young age. He died April 21,
1880, not quite 31 years old, in Osceola Mills. He was buried in the Old Goss
cemetery in Decatur, Clearfield Co. PA. It would be much appreciated to hear from
other Carothers, especially from the Blair Co area; or those who may be from
this branch of Carothers. I wonder where they came from before living in Blair
County and where were they buried? I do know that Margaret Carothers, sister
of Joseph m. Perry Kephart, (the brother of Alice Kephart) and that she died
quite young, leaving a young son who was adopted by Perry's Aunt Nancy Kephart
who was married to Richard Hughes. They named the baby Richard. Looking forward
to hearing from other family members or interested parties. Dorothy
