Hi Calvin,
First, for myself and for others who receive the Carroll-l list,
let me say "THANK YOU" for keeping our list going. I am sure it
takes a lot of work - EVERY DAY. Just think of the work it keeps
ME from having to do!! **THANKS**
Now, back to the subject: I personally don't like the digest
mode. When the single queries come in, I can glance quickly and
then delete or file. When a Digest comes in, I don't have time to
read all that, so I tend to leave it for later, and later...
Also, it is more difficult for me to reply to one message. I
still have a lot to learn! But, if the Digest is better for you
and others, that is fine with me.
If this list gets more and more traffic (as I wish it would),
would an index mailing be acceptable? If everyone would state in
the SUBJECT LINE the NAME of the person they are presently
working with (to locate, to find spouse, birth year,
parents, etc.), the YEAR of this search, and the two or three
letter CODE for the state or country, we could easily pick out
the messages we wanted to retrieve. Ex. {Alexander CARRELL, 1783,
NC} Now I don't know the details of how the list is managed, and
an index may actually increase the work load. It is just an idea.

I should have mentioned in my earlier note that one option to
dealing with the increased number of messages is to change
to the Digest mode.
