A few years ago, a boarded up building at forth and peach st.
appeared destined to become a parking lot listed for sale at around
$200,000, the circa 1872 home of GEORGE CARROLL had been
vacant for 10 years, and its owner Hamot Health Systems scheduled it for
the wrecking ballsince no one wanted it or so it seemed.
Chuck Iverson, director of corporate finance at Hamot health systems,
could
see the landmark from his office, and he and his wife Anna, a former
school teacher, decided to take a closer look in December , 1994.
it was pretty disgusting. but the architecture was visible inside and
out'
Anna Iverson, 37, said. the banister and the parquet floors were
incredible.''
even though remnants of nine apartments were crowed into the 5,400
square-
foot home the Iverson's envisioned an upscale BEAD and Breakfast
with
Anna in charge, we were ready to make an offer, but another bid
had
already been accepted.'' Chuck Iverson, 38, recalled. as months, passed
the couple forgot about the building but in March of 1995, they found out
that it was up for bid or up for a parking lotduty, '' i started making
phone calls in a
hurry,'' Anna Iverson said,' Don Muller of the Historical Society told us
another
couple interested in buying the building but they didn't want to on
there one, he suggested we form a partnership.''
