I want to say a few things about the recent spate of messages regarding
Happy 99, and then let's drop the subject:
1. First, "Happy99" is NOT a virus - it is a worm.
2. Secondly, It did NOT come through ROOTSWEB and the CARROLL
Mailing List. It may have been attached to a private message between two
subscribers to the List, however, but not via a message sent through the
List. This particular worm, like most, is transmitted via executable files, as,
Happy99.EXE.
This is one of the reasons RootsWeb bounces messages which have
attachments.
If you find a Happy99.exe file anywhere, SIMPLY DELETE IT.
3. Fof those of you who want to know more, how to remove it if your
system has been infected, or are just curious, go to:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/happy99.worm.html
Once again, I am going to ask that notices of such events be sent to me
privately - NOT to the List. That's one of the reasons I keep my e-mail
address attached to all my messages.
Let's get back to CARROLL genealogy, please.
