Will the person who has done a scraping of the inner cheek, sent it for a Y-DNA test to
the CARROLL project at FamilyTreeDNA, and is listed on the chart as # 30624 PLEASE contact
me? My e-mail address is luraj(a)triad.rr.com. The URL for the chart is

My reason for wanting to be in contact with you is because I think I can help you, and I
know you have helped several of us by sending the DNA sample. Why? Nineteen of us are
working together to try to determine the relationship and ancestry of the 10
Carrell/Carroll families listed in the 1790 census of Sampson/Duplin County of NC. One
person has now sent his sample, and we hope to enlist others to take the DNA test.
You list ancestors as private, Festus R, Amma B, Lewis, and Jesse. If this "Festus
R" is Festus Royal Carroll b. May 18, 1895, d. May 21, 1976, married Mildred Hale
Dargan, then I believe I can be of help to you. I think the Jesse you list was Jesse, Jr.
who married Margaret Merritt. I also believe the parents of Jesse, Jr. were Jesse, Sr.
and Mary Rachel Gavin of Sampson County, NC. Two persons in our group are descendants of
Jesse,Sr., and they have more information than I.
Perhaps you would be interested in becoming part of our research group. This is a group of
persons who have shared addresses for only the express purpose of researching these
Carrolls of Sampson County, NC. We have no formal mail list or news group.
If anyone else believes they may be descended from one of the following heads-of-household
listed in the 1790 census, I would also like to hear from you. The surname of these h-o-h
were all CARROL in the 1790 census. In 1800 they were all CARRELL. When their children
scattered, (many left the area around 1810) they may have used any surname that sounded
like Carroll.
Working together we can accomplish more than any of us can working alone.
