At this point I have very little to connect my Mary Carroll to the John Carroll who
migrated in 1822. Here's what I'm working with:
1) According to History of the Early Settlers of Nacoochee Valley currently located at
this website -
http://www.rootsweb.com/~gahabers/history/nacoocheevalleyhistory.htm, a
John Carroll & wife were part of "sixty-one different families that came in two
parties, one just one day behind the other, using the same camp fires, one party from
Burke County, North Carolina, and one from Rutherford County, North Carolina." This
was about families migrating into Habersham County, GA.
2) In 1829, my Mary Carroll and George Howard Ward were married in Habersham County, GA.
3) In a book titled "History of the Cherokee Indians" by Emmet Starr, it is said
that my Mary Carroll (wife of George Howard Ward) was born in Burke County, NC in 1792.
Mary always gave North Carolina as her place of birth for census records, so I'm
working with that. Her date of birth, however, is most likely wrong becuase she always
gave an age that put her birth closer to 1810 and her youngest child was born in 1847.
Additionally, her year of death was given as 1901 by one of her childen during a Guion
Miller Roll interview.
Thanks,
Carol
