About your James, Michael and Thomas Carroll of Kiltimaugh, County Mayo. Was your Thomas
Carroll father to an Ellen, b. NYC around 1865? We have a mystery with our Carroll line
and are trying follow every lead.
One story, actually the original family story, is Thomas Carroll came to NYC from Ireland,
County Mayo. So, this is what I'll base my question on. Thomas and unknown wife had
several children. One daughter, Ellen Carroll, was born in NYC, abt. 1866. Thomas and wife
died young, leaving the Carroll children alone. Ellen married at age 15 to Scot emigrant
Robert Thomson, in NYC, on 15 FEB 1884.
She had a sister Catherine, maybe another sister Elizabeth, and brothers Hugh and Owen,
and perhaps others. My Aunt Flo, grand-daughter of Ellen, great-grand daughter of Thomas
Carroll, is my source of info. Thomas Carroll would be my gg-grandfather.
Does any of this look familiar? I understand there was a terrible flu that wiped out a lot
of Carrolls, among many other families, in Queens in the mid- to late 1800s. They called
it a plague, it was probably akin to an asian flu epidemic. This could be what wiped out
Thomas Carroll.
