Subject: {not a subscriber} william carroll
Several of us are looking for the origin of a William
Carroll who lived in western Virginia. He was born
around 1700-1710, and was living in Orange County, Va.
by 1735. He stayed in generally the same area, and
died in 1758 in Frederick Co., Va., where his will is
on file.
We assume that a Joseph Carroll, who was active in the
same area and time, was his brother.
William's wife was Jane (Jane George, we think). His
children were George, Joseph, Katherine and Mary.
Katherine married William "Major Billy" Morris Jr.;
Mary married an Alderson; both were pioneer families
in western Va. Joseph was his only surviving son, and
he moved into what became Kanawha Co. W.Va. in the
early 1770s.
"Family traditions" quoted in various books say
William was from either Maryland, Virginia or Ireland
and was kin to Charles Carroll of Carrollton.
Do you have anything that might help us figure out
where he came from or anything more about him?
Thanks,
Lyn McDaniel
