Hello,
I have done quite a bit of research on some County Cavan Carroll familes.
Mary Carroll McGoldrick was born in 1822 in County Cavan. It was said that she had many
relatives in the United States. Records show the Clark families living in Newark, New
Jersey and New Bedford, Massachusetts. The Sheridans, Clarks, Kellys and Trainors, lived
in Chicago, Illinois - a branch of the Trainor family lived in Minnesota. Mary visited
most of them before her death.
She died in Deer Park, Wisconsin on 5 May 1909.
She had two brothers ( Terrence (killed) & Patrick ) who fought on the Confererate
side in the Civil War, ( Yazoo Valley )two brother said to have gone to Australia, a
sister who remained in Ireland, and a brother and sister who died of illness soon after
coming to America to visit her.
Bishop John Patrick Carroll born in Dubuque, Iowa in 1865 to Martin Carroll may have been
Mary's first cousin. She also had a cousin who was Sister Superior at St. Joseph
Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.
I am telling you all of this because I think General Sheridan came from County Cavan and
since Mary was also a relative of the Sheridan's there might be a connection.
