I descend from Carrolls from Lorrha Parish, Tipperary County. Thomas and
Anna Meara Carroll immigrated into NY city in 1854. Their son Daniel
came to Cincinnati as a youth and joined the army as a Civil War
soldier. He married Mary "Molly" Duffy, daughter of Patrick and Ellen
Russell from Dublin. All children are accounted for except for son
Thomas Carroll who "went west".
In my research I have found that many of the Irish immigrants were
buried in the New St Joseph's Cemetery in Price Hill. Their records are
excellent. They also required a "permit to bury" by a priest before
burial. Those permits are on microfilm at the Mormon Stake Library in
Norwood, a suburb of Cincinnati. The permits include name, origin, name
of parents, often including the mother's maiden name, age and cause of
death. The permits are a treasure trove. I highly recommend it to anyone
doing research in Cincinnati.
