Message Board Post:
I recently purchased a posed studio photograph (“Panel” Portrait) of a handsome young man
at an antique shop in Morris, IL. The man in the photo is “Harry F. Carroll”, of Richmond,
Indiana. I enjoy buying lovely old pictures like these in antique shops and locating
descendants/family members so that I can re-unite the pictures, for only my costs, with
people who will treasure them.
The picture was taken in about 1905, and is one of a group of about 25 I purchased, all
taken by the same photographer in Richmond, Wayne Co., Indiana (F. J. Parsons Studio).
Most of those pictured have written “Earlham College” and “’04” or "‘05” on the backs
of their photos, and I believe all those pictured to be graduates of Earlham in Richmond,
IN. Mr. Carroll is dressed in a coat, shirt and tie and appears to be in the neighborhood
of 20-22 years old. The picture is 4- ¼” x 8”, and is an original on heavy cardstock as
was typical during that time period. This photo itself is in good condition, but the
cardboard frame around the photo has a bit of water damage (though it does not affect the
picture itself)..
If you can relate to Harry F. Carroll or the Carroll family of Wayne Co., IN, please
Email me directly at margerice(a)prodigy.net and I will get back to you soon.
