Lura,
Not quite what I meant, which was for a male descendant of Charles Carroll
of Carrollton.
Daniel Carroll (the Immigrant) who arrived here ca.1700 and married Eleanor
Darnall in 1727/1728, whose sons were Daniel Carroll who signed the U.S.
Constitution (not the Declaration of Independence) , and John Carroll, the
Archbishop, MAY have been related to Charles Carroll of Carrollton through a
common ancestor back in Ireland. Daniel the Immigrant may very well have
living male descendants.
Does anyone know for sure what the relationship between these two Carrolls
was? Other than both marrying into the Darnall family. Max?
Eric

Eric,
I think a lot of us would also pitch in to help pay for a Carroll male to
have the
37 marker test who could prove his lineage back to Eile (Ely)
O'Carroll Territory of Ireland.
I know that Kevin Carroll, the Administrator for the Carroll Y-DNA
Project, has
been making an effort to enlist some of these known lineages to
volunteer for the project.
The more men who take the test the faster patterns will develop which may
eventually help all of us. Even though the results are posted by number
only, some men are choosing to post part of their lineage (not to the
present time), so others can benefit by comparison.

Lura,
I recently saw a reference to a list of an unbelievable 242 different ways
of spelling the surname Carroll, etc. Yikes! But perhaps most of these
sound alike variations are covered under Soundex C640.
Although there are many descendants of the Irish O'Carrolls in America, I
have recently found families of Carels and Karels who were Dutch
immigrants
in New Netherlands (New York) in the 1700s. Both of these spellings
also
mean Charles when used as a given name.
There are Carrels, Carels, Carls, Karrels, Karels and Karls in
Switzerland,
Czechoslovakia, the Ukraine, in Germany, in France and all over
eastern
Europe and the Balkans. And for that matter there are Carrolls in
Malaysia
and Singapore who are Asian Indian.
There are NO male Carroll descendants of Charles Carroll of Carrollton,
unless they were born after 1850, if at all. You can satisfy yourself
that
this is true by examining the genealogy of that family. If there is
such
a
living male descendant of Charles Carroll of Carrollton I wish he
would
step
forward with his proven paper trail and a sample of his Y-DNA for
the
ongoing Carroll Surname Y-Chromosome DNA Project. I would personally
offer
to pay for his Y-DNA test.
