Just posting this information that I have come across during my research efforts in trying
to get a better handle on my Carroll line. It may be useful to some of you as this Carroll
research is very difficult to say the least Its also speaks to the recent posting of Eric
Olson.
Before getting into that, however, I would like to recommend several Publications that
relate to the Carroll line and could prove useful to the various listers. They are :
The Life of Charles Carroll Of Carrollton, 1737-1832 by Kate Mason Rowland
Princes of Ireland---Planters of Maryland
A Carroll Saga, 1500-1782 by Ronald Hoffman in Collaboration with Sally D. Mason
University of North Carolina Press, Chapel Hill and London.
A History of the William Carroll Family of Allegany County, N.Y.
Author Kenyon Stevenson. Publisher: The York Printing Co., York, Penna. 1929
All of these contain useful information as to the Carroll Line and will help one to
understand the various relationships to some degree In one of those Publications, there
exists A Genealogical Synopis of the O'Carroll Pedigee, showing the relative Positions
of the Branches, that could be useful to the listers. This Synopis was commissioned by
Fredderick John O' Carroll, a noted Historian to the Journal of the Royal Historical
and Archaological Association of Ireland in 1883. If one can believe it, it Indicates the
following :
Daniel,Carroll of Litterluna had two sons, The younger son, Charles Carroll ( known as the
Immigrant ) Settled in Maryland in 1688.. His son, Charles became known as Charles of
Annapolis, and had a son, Charles, Known as Charles Carroll Of Carrollton.
The Signer, who was the last surviror of those who were the original Signers of our
Declaration of Independence.
The eldest son of Daniel of Litterluna was Anthony of Lisheenboy. He had 4 Sons.
Daniel, Micheal, James and Charles. Some of which settled also in America. Offspring of
these sons, Like Daniel, Who signed the Constitution of the United States, John , that
became the first R.C. Bishop of Baltimore, and others that play important roles in our
Colonial History, would have been cousins of Charles Carroll of Carrollton. Good luck in
your research....Ken McIntyre, Victorville, Ca.
