Do you know where in North Carolina Wealtha Carroll and Harbard Honeycutt were born?
There were lots of Carrolls in Sampson County, NC around 1800. There were also Honeycutts
there.
My interest is in the naming of the son Hugh ALEXANDER. My ggg-grandfather was Alexander
Carrell. In 1783 he married Lucy Ryal/Royal in Duplin which became Sampson County. No
daughter was named "Wealtha" in his will. He had two sons before 1790 and then
my gg-grandfather in 1791. I wonder if one of earlier sons, Reason or Wylie, might have
married very young and had a daughter born by 1802. Probably not, but there weren't
too many men given the name "Alexander", so I always wonder about a connection
when I see it.
We believe (and DNA seems to back up that assumption) that Dempsey Carrell,Jr. was
Alexander's brother, and they were both the sons of Dempsey Carrell,Sr. The DNA tests
also confirm that Jesse Carrell was related. Those three had a perfect 37/37 match. See
the results in orange at the Carroll DNA website:

The bottom row of the orange and the first row of gray below the orange relate to Dempsey,
Jr., Alexander, and Jesse with a 36/37 match, which means there is probable relationship,
but maybe a generation or two further back. However, there could have been one marker
mutation in even the last two or three generations.
Dempsey Carroll,Jr. did name a son ALEXANDER. We don't know, but it is possible that
Stephen, James, John, Elisha, Hardy, and Thomas, were all related to Dempsey. I wonder if
Wealtha was a daughter of one of these men and then she named her son Hugh Alexander after
her uncle or cousin.
A story in our family is that Alexander had a chest which was brought to the colonies when
the family originally came. The last our family knew that chest was in the possession of
someone with the surname of Honeycutt.
My eyes pick up "Honeycutt" and "Alexander". Could Wealtha have been
born in Sampson County, NC?
