I realize it has been seven years since this post, but I figure it might be worth replying
anyway. I found this post by googling "daniel the interpreter" on a silly whim.
The reason I did is that when I was little my dad used to kid me that I was a Cherokee
princess, because my paternal grandmother traces her lineage back to a Cherokee woman who
married an English man who was called "Daniel the interpreter" by the rest of
the tribe. I think we have a family tree somewhere that shows this, done at least 30
years ago by one of my great aunts. I don't know where she got her data. My
grandmother's maiden name was Warren, and I am pretty sure her family had lived in
Tennessee for at least a couple generations before she was born -- which of course may not
be at all helpful! Anyway, if the person who posted this wants me to dig around in our
basement for stuff related to this, I'd be happy to do so.
