I'm sure most of you have heard about the recent spate
of new virus attacks associated with the "I Love You".
I don't want to start a discussion of that because it's not
very productive, but in the interest of new computer users
in particular, I do have some thoughts.
First, if you receive an e-mail with an attachment from
someone you don't know, be very suspicious. It may be
best to just delete it.
Second, even if you do know the sender, look at the subject before you open
it because many of the newer
virus, in particular, invade your address book and send
out messages with the virus attached without the knowledge of the sender.
AND FINALLY - messages sent through RootsWeb,
that is those sent to the NAME-L(a)rootsweb.com are
not likely to have a virus. Their filtering is very effective at blocking
virus! That is one of the reasons why I quite
often answer messages you send to me privately, in
addition to sharing information with ALL our cousins,
through the List address.
I should also mention that just because you have a virus
protection program running on your computer, there is a
good chance it will NOT protect you against a NEW
virus until it has been updated by the vendor.
Enough said.
If you have comments, please send them to me privately.
