Gail, I think you will find that the location for Gilner was
New Madrid, not Midred.
I have no personal knowledge of this man, however, a
number of Carrolls moved to Missouri from Tennessee
so that part seems reasonable.
I will forward your query to our Carroll family mailing list,
(about 600 subscribers) and see if you get a response. I'll
ask that any responses be sent directly to you.

Subject: {not a subscriber} LOOKING FOR HELP
I just received the CIVIL WAR PENSION FILE for my GREAT GREAT
GRANDFATHER
and
his name was JAMES G. KIRTLEY and his wife's name was BARDISSA.
In reading
this file I found that she was married before and her first husband was
GILNER CARROLL ( first name was very hard to read), he died on June
10,1864
in NEW MIDRED, MISSOURI. He got sick when moving from TENNESSEE to
MISSOURI.
Do you think there is a connection to your CARROLL FAMILY, I would
like to
find out who his parents were and if BARDISSA and GILNER CARROLL had any
children.
I will look followed to hearing from you.
