Why do you think your James Madison is related to Bartholomew Carroll SR?
Who was James married to ?
When did James die?
Did you search for an obit?
Have you found any verivable siblings of James?
Did you find James M. Carroll on any other census?
Were there any siblings of James that they may have traveled with? Or his wife's
family?
Do you have his wife's maiden name?
If you would answer each of the above questions it will give me something to start with
to see if I have any information on your James M.

Bettye,
My James Madison Carroll put on a census out here in Cowlitz County,
Washington that he was born in Kentucky. He also put that his mother was
born in Kentucky, and his father was born in Virginia.
According to his tomb stone, we took his death date minus his years, months,
and days alive we came up with March 6, 1829 as his birth date.
He got married out here in Cowlitz County, Washington Territory on November
9, 1854.
We have all their children and etc. forward but we do not know who his
parents were.
He was out here before the civil war so there shouldn't be any military
records on him.
He was born before Virginia split into two states.
So that is my brick wall for many many years.

If your James Madison Carroll was born in Ky do you know who his father
was? Bart Sr was in Dearborn CO. Indiana by 1818 according to his REV WAR
pension records. He then died 1827/1828 Johnson Co Ind.
Who did James Madison marry? Who were his parents , did you find him on
any census records? Where was James M. living when he died? Was James M.
in the Civil War?
I have approximately 10 file folders full of Carroll research. Maybe I
have something on a James Madison Carroll.
I know these are a lot of questions but, I may have some info who knows.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Bette,
I'm still looking for my ancestors for their period of time.
Bartholomew Sr. had sons named James, William,John and Samuel.
Some of their other sons named one son James Madison Carroll
My GGGrandfather was James Madison Carroll born in Kentucky we believe
March
6, 1829.
We have 7 generations of James Madison Carroll in our line from him.
We have not proved or disproved we are related to Bartholomew's sons.
I hope one of the GGGrandsons of Bartholomew Carroll submits a DNA test to
see if I may match them.
That should prove or disprove it.
