Susan;
The Dempsey CARROLL family is very much intertwined with my BARTLETT ancestors.
Jemima CARROLL c1735-1830s m Sylvester WELCH - they are my ancestors through their
daughter Elizabeth WELCH m 1797 James FLEMING, whose dau Sarah m 1827 John H BARTLETT and
moved to Roane Co, VA. Another child of Jemima and Sylvester WELCH was Benjamin WELCH who
m 1797 Harrison Co, VA Mary BARTLETT - they had about 9 children, based on census
records... who were they and what happened to them?
Sanford CARROLL m 1771 Fauquier Co, VA Elizabeth BARTLETT, dau of my ancestor Thomas
BARTLETT c1730-1806. Sanford died in his 30s leaving 3 children who were taked care of by
Elizabeth's brother, who moved them to Harrison Co, VA in 1785 when the BARTLETT
family moved there. Their only son, Dempsey Porter CARROLL b c1776 Fauquier Co, VA
married Sarah BARKLEY, lived in Harrison Co, VA for a while and then moved to Clinton Co,
OH where he died in 1856 - I'm trying to determine if his eldest son was Sanford
Bartlett CARROLL, who married twice and died in 1840s in Clinton Co, OH.
Sarah CARROLL m 2 Jan 1777 Fauquier Co, BA Thomas BARTLETT Sr c1730-1806, whose wife,
Anne, had recently died, leaving Thomas with 10 children... Thomas & Sarah had 5
children before they moved to Harrison Co, VA in 1785.
from Dempsey's 2m to Rebecca Heath SMITH
Mary Ann Heath CARROLL b 1766 m 1784 Benjamin BARTLETT, another son of Thomas BARTLETT
c1730-1806 who lived in Harrison Co, VA near Bridgeport
Cynthia CARROLL 1774-1852 m 1793 Harrison Co, VA to William HAYMOND Jr.
I have two questions:
1. Dempsey died 1776 when Cynthia was only 2 years old - how died Rebecca Heath Smith
CARROLL and her children and stepchildren get to Harrison Co, VA??? What happened to
Rebecca, after Dempsey died?
2. William HAYMOND's sister, Susannah HAYMOND m Robert BARTLETT. What ever happened
to them, and who were their children?
Thanks, Jim Bartlett
