Hello Jeannie – My Carroll ancestors are from Hugginstown, Co. Kilkenny, about 26km
northeast of Windgap, Co. Waterford (not Co. Kilkenny). My great great grandmother was
Ellen CARROLL Donahue (1836-1917) from Hugginstown who died in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Ellen’s
father was Anthony Carroll (1800-1861) and mother was Mary Feehan – both from Hugginstown.
I actually live a couple of miles from Doughoregan Manor in Howard Co., MD – this is where
Charles Carroll is buried.

Hello Jeannie
If you have male Carroll or Meagher relatives, you might want to have
their Y-chromosome DNA tested. Both names are associated with Ely
Carroll Y-DNA. See my web page on Ely Carroll DNA at:
http://www.peterspioneers.com/elycarroll.htm
My wife's Carrolls are from Limerick. They thought they were related to
the Carrolls of Maryland. It turned out not to be true, but we found
they were related to another Carroll group from Ireland.

My Carroll relatives hailed from Windgap, Kilkenny Southern Ireland,
in the mid 1800s. Michael Carroll and Ellen Maher (Meagher) had sons
named Martin, John, Michael and Thomas and two daughters Margaret and
Mary. Martin and John settled in Syracuse NY. Martin died in 1938 at
the age of 93; John died around 1885, and had two sons: Michael --
who died in a train accident, and John William Carroll who was a
Cartman.
I am close to linking our relatives to Anthony, brother of Charles
Carroll The Emigrant (the grandfather to Charles the Signer).
My ancestors did NOT follow the path to Maryland, but have often said
that the Maryland Carrolls are their cousins.
I am searching for clues to connect the dots in Ireland....can you
help? Thanks so much!
Jeannie
