William Edward "Bill" Carroll, age 83, of Harborcreek ,Pa,
passed away at his residence, on Monday, December 8, 2014. He was born in Erie, on March
16, 1931, son of the late Edward Staley and Genevieve Black Carroll. Bill was a lifelong
resident of Erie and graduated from Academy High School in 1950, where he was involved in
DeMolay. He was a faithful employee of General Telephone Co. (Verizon) for 41 years. Bill
proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Corps, during the Korean Conflict. He was a
sharpshooter, and he received a commendation for building a relay phone system in Italy.
Bill was known for his kindness and willingness to help others through his abilities as a
jack of all trades, and his mechanical problem solving skills. He served as an Iroquois
School Board member for ten years. He was an active member of the Emmanuel United
Presbyterian Church, and later, the Wesley United Methodist Church. He volunteered for the
Billy Graham Ministry's Leighton Ford Crusade and was an Erie County Chapter
Koinonian. Bill enjoyed hi!
storical trivia, Lake Erie, trains, motorcycles, and vintage cars. He recently spent most
of his days enjoying time with family and caring for his rescue dogs. Bill is sadly missed
by his loving wife of 58 years, Marilyn Hyde Carroll, his daughters, Janice (David) Sayers
and Nancy (Brian) Carroll-Hunt, his grandson, Bryce Sayers, and his "pups" Ziggy
and Stevie. Friends will be received at Wesley United Methodist Church, corner of Station
Rd. and South St., on Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service there at 3
p.m., conducted by Rev. Pamela Gardner. The American Legion Carl Neff Post will render
military honors following the service. Private interment will be held. Memorials may be
made to the ANNA Shelter, 1555 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16511 or to Orphan Angels, 5439
West Lake Rd., Erie, PA 16505. The Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., is in
charge of arrangements.
