Washington Carroll, Jr.
75, of Harrisburg, Pa., formerly of Massillon, Ohio, died on March 14, at peace and
surrounded by family following a lengthy illness.
He was born September 21, 1936 in Alabama, the oldest of eight children to Washington
Carroll, Sr. and Hattie Bell Carroll.
He lived most of his adult life in Massillon. He retired in 1980 from LTV Steel, formerly
Republic Steel, after 27 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, three brothers: Johnnie, Arnell and
James, one sister Pleasie and son Anthony Darnell.
He leaves to remember his life, two daughters Mary Jane (Rodney) Brooks of Harrisburg,
Pa., and Pamela Bullock, of Columbus, Ohio; three sons, Calvin and Melvin of Massillon, OH
and Dennis of N.Y. and step son David Warthen; two sisters, Lubertha (Charles) Mills of
Statesville, N.C., and Alberta Jones of Montgomery, Alabama and one brother Willie Carroll
of Massillon; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
Walsh's also was very dear to his cousins Linroy Carroll, Essie Brooks and Lucille
Clarke.
Washington (Walsh as he was known too many) was the family historian. He enjoyed linking
family members together and sharing the family history.
He also enjoyed baseball. His favorite teams were the Cleveland Indians and the New York
Yankees.
Walsh was a great cook and loved sharing those meals with family.
In recent years the joys of his life were his two great grandsons, Jaden and Jace, who
called him 'Big Dad'.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. with a brief visitation
starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, 1919 North 4th Street,
Harrisburg, Pa. 17110.
