Lura,
I'm glad you mentioned the Y-DNA results again. It looks like your Duplin Co, NC
CARROLLs are R1b1a2a1a1b4b. I descend from a Dempsey CARROLL b 1711 Westmoreland Co, VA; d
1776 Loudoun Co, VA. Some of his children married in Fauquier Co, VA and moved to western
VA. His son Dempsey CARROLL b 1740 VA, died 1806 in Mason Co, KY. A descendant has been
Y-DNA 12 tested as R1b1a2, but he is 9/12 mismatch with your NC line. I wonder how the
Dempsey names gets into these CARROLL lines.
I have done atDNA at both FTDNA (Family Finder) and 23&Me (Relative Finder). I have
two matches with folks who have CARROLL ancestors. One descends from Dempsey CARROLL b NC
died AL. The other descends from a John CARROLL b c1790 NC who moved to TN and then to MO.
All three of us share the same segment of atDNA, meaning we probably all 3 share the same
Common Ancestor. I was hoping it might be the CARROLL line.
Please let me know if you can tie either of these two CARROLLs into your family, and/or if
you know where the NC CARROLLs came from.
Thanks,
Jim Bartlett jim4bartletts(a)verizon.net
