I just now found this query asking for an obituary. No, I have no information about the
Hardy who was hanged. I know there were 2 Hardy Carrolls in Duplin County in 1820. One of
them died there in 1826. I don't know what happened to the other one, but I have
wondered if he moved to Franklin County.
My Major Hardy Carroll, son of Alexander in Sampson County (but very close to where Hardy
lived in Duplin) married and settled in Stokes County in 1815. He could not have been in
the 1820 census of Duplin or the one hanged in Franklin.
I would love for some Carroll men from Franklin County to have the DNA test to determine
if they are related to the ones in Sampson/Duplin in 1790. We have several descendants
from that group who have been tested.
