I wish I could tell you that you were on the right rack but my grandmother
got her Carroll name by marriage. Coincidentally she was a Carl. Their
marriage had a short adventure and her very religious Carroll husband never
married again. He died in the 1918 international Flu epidemic.
On the other hand she had a son and I benefitted by having the last name
"Carroll".
I confess to being very addicted to Ireland and all its histories - good and
bad. I've visited there three times and was fortunate to find the 200 year
old house still standing. Of course no one was living in it but I was
treated to a drink by the old fireplace with a peat fire; a memory I will
cherish all the rest of my life.
My Carrolls endured the famine but by 1854 they had had enough and came to
New York City like so many other Irish. My great great grandparents are
buried in New York. My great grandfather, just litle more than a boy
migrated to Cincinnati where he enlisted in the Army of the North in our
Civil War. He was captured twice and released and ended his army career
being a guard at a military station in Cincinnati. AND YES! I have pictures.
Aren't I lucky? I'm sorry for my delay but I've been feverishly working on
another genealogical problem. I am now too old to travel but I surround
myself with books and am never lonely. I would recommend the hobby to
everyone. You can never get bored! Willie

Hi! Was just going through the message boards again & ran across your
post. My GGG-grandmother is Caroline E. Carroll. I have some records from
the Natchitoches courthouse, but sadly, hardly anything about William.
Can't seem to tie him back any further. Please contact me if you are
interested in sharing info. I have a picture of Madison that was sent to
me by Diane Wyatt, also a Madison descendant, I believe. Sharon at
