Doughoregan Manor, Howard County, Maryland
According to her obituary in the Baltimore Sun (daily newspaper), my
immigrant great-great-great grandmother Mary Boland Carroll (1782-1872),
"relict of William Carroll of Ballincara" (northern Tipperary), was
living on this estate with her youngest child Sarah Carroll Renehan
(1823-1900) and husband Edward when she died in 1872. I have no proof
that the two families are related, only that they came from the same
part of Ireland.

Message Board Post:
Maybe those of you interested in the home of Charles Carroll of
Carrolton would like to hear the news about it at the present time. The
300 year old house has deteriorated to the point that it must be
restored or will no longer be usable. Plans had been made that would
supply the funds to do this.
The Bad News:
An article had been published in the Chicago Tribune on June 26, 2009,
saying that plans previously made to restore and preserve the home of
Charles Carroll of Carrollton had been put on hold because of the
recession. Plans had been made to allow 2000 units for senior housing to
be built on 188 acres of the estate, and the capital from that sale
would have been used to restore the 300 year old Carroll home. But
Erickson Retirement Communities had to drop those plans for the senior
living complex.

But Wait....
There is GOOD news:
An article in the Baltimore Sun on September 15, 2009 tells of a revised
plan which will still provide some revenue for the family to restore the
historic home. It is the only home of one who signed the constitution
which is still owned by his family. It would be a shame if it were
allowed to deteriorate after 300 years.
