Tracy,
Not sure if you are still our there, but Commodore Donnohue is my GGGrandfather. Missouri was his sister. Based on Commodore's death certificate, their father was James T. (Thomas?) Donnohue of Perry County Missouri. The mother was Sarah Parker who is dificult to find but is said to be native american according to family history. You can find James and Sarah in the 1850 Federal Census for Perry County, MO where Commodore was born two years later. The child Van is actually Van Buren who was born to James and his second wife Parallee. Caroline and Ethel Kemp were the daughters of Missouri and Jesse Kemp (Bn 1852). Later Missouri married Thomas Williamson and bore Oscar Lee in 1889. If you need anything further please let me know. I have done extinsive research on this family.
Josh

Rachel,
You mentioned your Carroll grandparents are from TN and KY. Where in those states were they born and raised?

It sounds very possible that there is a connection. I have an extensive history on the Brashears side, but the Carroll side information I had was not right. I do know that Maggie Mae was part indian. There is no doubt of that. I just don't know how much and am unsure if she was Cherokee or Choctaw. You can tell by the pictures she was at least 1/8. Most of the women, including myself have the strong features. I have indian on my mother's side as well but no one ever talked about it, so that is a complete mystery!

Rachel,
I find this interesting because of the locations and the similarities in names.
1. My Grandfather William M. Sherrod Carroll (the son of James Carroll) had a daughter named Mae. 2. Grandfather William lived very near the KY border close to Jellico, TN and 3. migrated from there across the line into southern KY to marry a KY woman. 4. Also, as I mentioned there is family rumor some of our family migrated to OK.
I am wondering if there is some kind of connection to your family and mine.

Maggie Mae was born in Kentucky. Richard (Ed) was born in Tennessee. I just got Maggie Mae's death certificate in the mail yesterday. Her parents are listed as James Carroll and Fannie Massey. I haven't had time to search them up yet.
Maggie and Ed lived in Texas and Oklahoma. They were my dad's grandparents on my grandma's side. You'll see my dad, Odis (Otis) listed on some of the census as living with Mag and Ed. His mother was Jimmie Mae Brashears. Both Mag and Ed died in Lawton, Ok.

Rachel,
Do you know the original birthplace of Maggie Mae Carroll and Ed Brashears?
It just occurred to me that a cousin recently told me she thinks some of our Carroll Family may have migrated to OK.

If there is proof of who Mary Kuykendall married, I'd love to see it, too. A researcher or two in my Carroll line believe that she married Joseph Carroll around 1760.
These Carrolls were living in far western VA and never were in SC. The Kukendalls were supposedly in Rockingham CO. VA, all of which which makes it problematic for a marriage in SC.
Good luck, and please reply if you find any proof.

I know all of the above for certain.
Is there documented proof that John CARROLL and Mary KUYKENDAL are the parents of the above-mentioned James CARROLL born abt 1768 in York District, South Carolina?
Also relating Joseph CARROLL and Janet SWANCE would be a bonus.
