Yes Christopher's middle name was Columbus. That info came from Mollie's Obit & from Helen Y Hughes. They were married in Hawkins Co. TN in 1879. His KY death certificate is under Chester C Carroll he was buried in the Parksville Cemetery, Parksville, KY.
Yes Washington was my grandfather & Paul is my father

Thank you so much for the information! I tried to contact Helen Hughes several years ago via letter but never received a reply. I have only two children listed for Thomas and Mary Jane Cross Carroll: Christopher and Mary Ann. Would appreciate knowing of the others and any dates you could give me regarding birth and death. Also, was Christopher C. Carroll born in March 1850 in Virginia? That is the info I have and also that he died in Fayetteville, AR on March 3, 1935. Did not know he was buried in Kentucky. I also have that his middle initial C stood for Columbus. If Washington C. Carroll was your grandfather, was your father Paul?

Christopher C Carroll is the son of Thomas Carroll & Jane Cross, & it is Cross not Cratt.
With the exception of one child of Thomas & Jane, all the children list them as their parents in their death cert.
According to Mary (Annie) Carroll Adams, she told my uncle & father that Christopher & his son Washington changed their names to Chester & George respectively to avoid family issues. Christopher is buried in Parksville,KY along with his mother Jane Cross & sister Mary(Annie)Adams.
This information was also shared with me by Helen Y Hughes in 2009, a couple of years before she died.

Thank you for the information. I did not have any of the children of Charles & Mary Price Carroll. I have in my records that Christopher's parents were Thomas Carroll and Mary Jane Cross or Cratt. Not sure this is correct though.

The Carroll of Ely Coat of Arms is real (see http://clancian-ocarroll.com/html/arms_of_the_o_carroll.html). There were other known Carroll septs that had their own Coat of Arms, in particular Carroll of Oriel. Unfortunately, that clan was eradicated by the English Normans circa 1167 and erased from history. Irish Arms or Titles did not exist from the point of view of King Edward VI and subsequent English Monarchs. In fact, an Act of 1587 stated that all Gaelic Titles would "henceforth cease, end, determined and be utterly abolished and extinct for ever." See http://www.carrolloforiel.com/the-arms-of-the-carroll-of-oriel-family.html.
The reason Carroll of Ely survived and was recognized in 1587 is due to various marriages between the Carroll of Ely and English royal lineage. First marriage with Richard de Clare "Strongbow" (2nd Earl of Pembroke born in 1130 led the 1130 Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland in the reign of Henry II), married 1171 to Aoife Mac Murrough Princess of Leinster, descendent of Brian Boru and other members of the Carroll of Ely. Second marriage in the late 1300's, Carroll of Ely Chief Teige Carroll married Joan, daughter of James Butler, the Second Earl of Oremonde, who was the great grandson of English King Edward I. Third marriage in the early 1500's between Carroll of Ely Chief Ferganainm (Mulroney the Great) to Elizabeth, the daughter of Gerald, the 9th Earl of Kildare, and Elizabeth Zouche co-heiress of Lord Grey of Codnor. It goes the other way too; daughters of the Carroll of Ely married into the English royal lineage.
By the way do you know where in Ireland your Carroll's came from?

There probably are several for various lines of Carroll. However, only the specific family line that the herald has created the coat of arms for is entitled to use it. In some cases the CoA may only be used by one person. There are companies that claim to be able to find your family coat of arms, and what they find may well have been used by a member of the Carroll family. But that doesn't mean that it is legitimate for you.

Dear Carlowen:
The Carroll of Ely Coat of Arms is real (see

other known Carroll septs that had their own Coat of Arms, in particular
Carroll of Oriel. Unfortunately, that clan was eradicated by the English

Monarchs. In fact, an Act of 1587 stated that all Gaelic Titles would
“henceforth cease, end, determined and be utterly abolished and extinct for
ever." See
http://www.carrolloforiel.com/the-arms-of-the-carroll-of-oriel-family.html.
The reason Carroll of Ely survived and was recognized and registered in
1587 is due to various marriages between the Carroll of Ely and English
royal lineage. First marriage with Richard de Clare "Strongbow" (2nd Earl
of Pembroke born in 1130 led the 1130 Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland in
the reign of Henry II), married 1171 to Aoife Mac Murrough Princess of
Leinster, descendent of Brian Boru and other members of the Carroll of Ely.
Second marriage in the late 1300's, Carroll of Ely Chief Teige Carroll
married Joan, daughter of James Butler, the Second Earl of Oremonde, who

early 1500's between Carroll of Ely Chief Ferganainm (Mulroney the Great) to
Elizabeth, the daughter of Gerald, the 9th Earl of Kildare, and Elizabeth
Zouche co-heiress of Lord Grey of Codnor. Then there is Lady Margaret
O'Carroll. It goes on and on.
By the way do you know where in Ireland your Carroll's came from?

Mine are from Sampson County, NC by chance did you have a David Carroll about 1834?
Or Elijah Carroll born 1834 d. 1883?
