Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
For you folks searching for Carroll's the South Carolina Archives is now on line.
I received the information from another web site.
I checked it out and there are lots of Carroll's listed.

I would very much like to know if any man from the Isle of Wight County, VA, CARROLL/CARRELL Family has sent a sample of his DNA to be tested and then compared in the Carroll Project. There are several who "wonder" if they might be related to that family.
Kevin Carroll is the Administrator of the Project, and the DNA samples are processed by FamilyTreeDNA. A kit can be ordered at
http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?code=F25174&Group=Carroll
Please order the Y-DNA37 or the Y-DNA67 if possible. The Y-DNA12 just does not provide enough information to be helpful.
Other sites that might give more information about the DNA project are
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/carroll/default.aspx
and
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/carroll/default.aspx?section=goals
and
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/carroll/default.aspx?section=news
and
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/carroll/default.aspx?section=yresults
The following site is the one where Kevin has put the Y-DNA results into groups that seem to be related to each other. In other words, those shown in one color probably had a common ancestor at some point in the past. You can see the known ancestors of the DNA donor on the right end of each line.
http://www.carrollroots.com/carrollfamilydnavalues.pdf
Many of you were told as you grew up that your family was related to Charles Carroll of Carrollton. Now you can know for sure whether you have a male connection to that famous family. The large dark green section includes the record of a DNA sample of that family.
If you wonder if your Carrolls were part of the very prolific family in Sampson/Duplin County, NC, then send a sample to see if you match those in the large orange section.
Other groups are beginning to emerge as well. Does one of them contain the descendants of your ancestor?
There is a Rootsweb mail list dedicated to the discussion of the use of DNA in researching the CARROLL family. Anyone wishing to join should send a letter to Carroll-DNA-request(a)triad.rr.com with the one word SUBSCRIBE on the subject line and in the body of the message.
Now do you see how we are making progress in sorting out this very difficult surname? The more samples are sent, the faster we will define kinship.

In 1825, as part of the Peter Robinson Settlers to what is now Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, 8 shiploads of settlers mostly from Co. Cork,...Thomas Hennessey and his wife, Nancy "Ann" Carroll brought their children to Ennismore Twp, Peterborough County, Ontario from Fermoy, Co. Cork. About 1829 or 30, Thomas was killed in a farm accident by being kicked by a horse. His widow, Anne Carroll, remarried to Patrick Flaherty from Kilworth, Co. Cork. Some of the Hennessey children stayed in Ontario Canada, but some came with Ann Carroll and her new husband, to Geneva, Ontario Co. NY. On her gravestone in St. Peter's RC Cemetery, in Geneva, NY, it says she was a native of Castlehide, Co. Cork, Ireland (Present-day Castlehyde, a couple miles from Fermoy.

I made a mistake in this message! In 1704, it was necessary for Mary Carrell to prove that she was the daughter of Martha Spiltimber and Robert House to "prove she was the only heir-at-law" of John Spiltimber, who would have been her grandfather. In order to prove clear title to her land, she had to prove her descent.
I am sorry if this mistake caused any problems. And thank you to the gentleman who brought this to my attention.

I have a high school graduation photo of Katharine Agatha Carroll, from English High School in Worcester, MA, taken in 1897. Her parents were Michael (born Aug 1849 Ireland) and Mary A. (born Apr 1857 Massachusetts). Katherine was born Feb 1878 in Mass. Her siblings were Charles S., Mary L., and Francis E.
I am trying to return her to her family. If you are related to her and want the photo, let me know. I can send a scan first if you like.
