All trees I have found on Nathaniel Carroll lists Ann Robertson and he as being the parents of:
Elizabeth M. Carroll,
Lucinda Carroll
James Bowls Carroll
Mary ann Carroll
John J Carroll
Susan Carroll (Sousian)
Lavinia Carroll
I do not see any information that leads me to believe this is true. If any one does, please respond.
I doubt very seriously Ann Robertson is their mother. Three of the children named a child after Henrietta, and one grandchild did. That is a lot of respect and love from a child to do that. I also can not find where a Nathaniel Carroll married a Henrietta Webb. I do see where Nathaniel married Ann. If you look at the names of the children by this sibling group, they were very prone to name their kids after their brothers, sisters and in some cases in-laws.
There is no Ann nor Nathaniel. This would be extremely odd from this sibling group to not name a child after their biological parents.
Any input greatly appreciated.

I have run into a block, but my Great Grandfather is Michael Leo Carroll and Married Margaret Welsh. The Youngstown, Ohio US Census of 1910. He had Hannah, Catherine, James W., & John Ambrose (My Grandfather, Died in LA on 1956). Apparently he lived next door to James W. I haven't found anything beyond that. Got Initial info from the Death Certificate of John Ambrose. Michael and Margaret seem to have been born in Ireland.

There was a comprehensive article about Demse James Carroll in a "Virginia Genealogical Society Quarterly" some time prior to 2006. It was researched and written by Nancy B. Fratt. I'm sorry that I did not record the date of that issue.

I am interested in documenting this line, which is mine through their Welch marriages. Jemima Carroll, daughter of Dempse, married Sylvester Welch III.
Could you please give me an idea of where to research documents? How are they related to the MD Carrolls, if at all? The Welches/Welshes went back and forth between VA and MD.

Since the list has been more active lately, I thought I would re-post my
CARROLL information.
My g-grandfather was William CARROLL (b. ca. 1840, Ireland - d. 1889, Perry
Co., IN). From different sources, I have his birth year as 1837 (obit.) , 1843
(tombstone) or 1846 (death record).
My grandmother, Anna CARROLL, listed on her marriage license in Perry Co., IN
that her father was William CARROLL, b. Tippiarie (sic), Ireland and that her
mother was Anna MINTO, b. 1853, Grayson Co., KY. Oral family history is
that Anna's surname was MINTON. Another source gives Anna MINTON'S birthplace as
Hardin Co., KY.
I believe William and Anna (Minton) CARROLL may have been married in Hardin
Co., KY (ca 1870) although I have no proof of that. There is a
birth/christening record in the St. Clare Church register, Hardin Co., KY for a James
Dionisius CARROLL (b.Oct 1874/c.Dec 1874), parents William CARROLL and Anna Jane
MENTON, sponsor Mrs. Mary E. Ryan.
William and Anna (Minton) CARROLL had six children: James (b1874), Maggie
(b1876,KY), Joseph (b1878,KY), Anna (b1886, IN), Patrick (b1890 posthumously, IN)
and one unknown, (b-d bef 1889).
I have not found William and/or Anna in the 1870 or 1880 Census. Anna
(Minton) CARROLL, Maggie, Joseph, Anna and Patrick CARROLL are in the 1900 Perry
Co., IN Census (indexed as Canoll on Ancestry.com). James apparently died before
1900. The children gave their father's birthplace as Ireland.
William CARROLL d. 1889, Perry Co., IN and Anna (Minton) CARROLL d. 1941,
Vanderburgh Co., IN; both are buried in St. Michaels Cemetery, Cannelton, Perry
Co., IN.
I would like to hear from anyone that has CARROLLS in Grayson or Hardin Co.
KY in this time frame, or anyone with Co. Tipperary roots that ended up in
Kentucky, or anyone that can enlighten me about researching Irish roots.
Thanks,
Jane Gibbs Wheaton

Can anyone offer a suggestion about why September 9, 1968 at the bottom of this will is written in what seems like the same penmanship as the rest of the will, and then someone else has written 1848 above the 1968???
According to an abstract of this will by Elizabeth E. Ross in "SAMPSON COUNTY WILLS 1784 - 1900", the will was probated in court November 1858. It was stated that Raiford died June 1, 1858. SO, why in the world did Raeford Carroll date his own will incorrectly??
Did someone actually write this will in 1968 and accidentally put that date rather than a date that would make it appear to be the actual will of Raeford Carroll?
There are so many interesting puzzles in genealogy!

Hi Wilma,
If I can contact her, I will. It's possible she is mistaken
about Elisha and Sarah Brown being the parents of the Isaac
Carroll she seeks. I would still like to learn why she thought
they might be his parents. We had wondered if an Isaac Carroll
who lived near them in GA might be their son, but decided he
probably was not. If she is interested in an Isaac who lived in
VA, it probably isn't the same one.

Dear Evelyn,
The letter below from you to the CARROLL mail list is over nine
years old, but I just happened across it on my computer and
decided to try to see if you could possibly still be working on
genealogy and still be on the mail list. I wrote to you at
rambin(a)attglobal.net shown below, but that letter came back to
me.
I'm writing on behalf of several of us who have worked hard for a
long time trying to understand and sort the CARROLLS who lived in
the Six Runs Creek Area of Sampson/Duplin Counties, NC at the
time of the 1790 census. The area was in Duplin before 1784, when
part of that county became Sampson. In 1790 Hardy C. was just
over the border in Duplin while these were in Sampson:
Alexander
Demey (Dempsey Jr. or Sr.)
Demcy (Dempsey Jr. or Sr.)
Elisha
Elizabeth
James
Jesse
John, Sr.
Stephen
As you probably know by now ONE Elisha Carroll was born in 1799
and married Sarah Brown April 5,1817 in Duplin County, NC. He
was likely the son of one of the ten shown in the 1790 census.
Do you still believe that your Isaac was their son?
We have several people who trace their ancestry back to this
couple. Their research does not indicate an Isaac was a son of
Elisha Carroll who married Sarah Brown. We know there were at
least two other Elisha Carrolls in Duplin/Sampson Counties.
Perhaps there were even more, since many of these colonial
families seemed to use the same names. Maybe one of these other
Elisha Carrolls was the father of Isaac, or perhaps we need to
include him as a son of Elisha and Sarah Brown Carroll.
I look forward to hearing from you. I know six others who will
be anxious to work with you if you are a descendant of Elisha and
Sarah Brown Carroll.

I realize that is has been a few years since you posted your query on Ruffin Carroll. There were two Ruffin Carrolls in Johnston Co., NC during the 1800's.
I visited the grave of William Ruffin Carroll in Johnston County, NC last month. He is buried on a private piece of wooded land. He was born in 1849, and died in 1913. His parents were Howell Carroll & Ellinor Hawkins. He was married to Emma Green.
The other Ruffin Carroll was James Ruffin Carroll born 16 Jun 1835, died 10 Jan 1914. His parents were James Carroll and Clara. James Ruffin was my gg grandmother's brother. I would be very interested in exchanging further information with you, as I feel that these two Ruffins were cousins.
Louise
