Hello,
I am searching for more information on the following family:
Robert CARROLL (misspelled as Caroll on the 1860 and 1870 US Census) and wife Maria ? born in Ireland and settled in North Castle, NY.
Children were Edward, Robert, Daniel, Charles, Margaret and Frances.
If any of this looks familiar, thanks in advance.

Sounds like my Carroll family, in Licking Co., Ohio since 1826. Drop me a line.
There were two Carroll families there and then; those in Mary Ann Township, and those closer to Granville.

Charles,
I don't know. My earliest sighting was PA 1798. Philip Carrel, who died
in the War of 1812....

Read my post again.
My maiden name is not Carroll. I was merely stating what I knew about blacks having the same surname as white folks. My post was written with the utmost kindness and respect to the board. I am 74, I get riled up about nothing at this age.(also my ggggrandmother was full blooded Cherekee.

I am searching for my god parent Florence Carroll. She/he may have been a nurse or employee at Saint Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn, NY during 1962.
The date of my baptismal was December 17th, 1962. My mother's name Anna Marie Meehan. Ida Mae McGinnis was my other godparent. She has passed away in 2004. She was also a nursing supervisor at Saint Mary's in 1962. Any help, if even anonymous I would appreciate it. Thanks.
The first names in your family match mine but of different dates, e.g.
Francis E. (1852), Sarah(?), and Mary (1844?). They could be cousins.
I do not know where my Carroll's came from either in Ireland. Are you
involved in the Y-DNA project? I am. See kit #31491 at
http://www.childtalk.com/History/carrollfamilydna.html . If you have
not submitted your Y-DNA, please do so through

Best regards,

There probably is Carroll's of color. My maiden name used to be a rare name. We have a family reuniion in Tenn. and 2 ladies from New Youk came who were of color. Had a great time. They were wonderful.
Back in the days of slavery, if a slave liked their owner they would take their last name. If they didn't like them they might take the name of a family they liked down the road. It is a compliment to the family of the name they chose.
