I'm hoping I can get some further info on this line. My husband's great grandfather was Charles Floyd Carroll, born 25 April 1884 in Midway Mills, Nelson County, Va.; died 16 April 1959 in Leslie, Greenbrier Co., West Virginia. He was the son of Joshua M or W. Carroll, Jr. and Emma F. Robertson. He married Mary Martha Chrisman Abt. 1905.
The info I have also says Joshua M or W. Carroll, Jr. was born 12 September 1864 in Nelson Co., VA; died 1938. He was the son of Joshua Carroll and C(K)atherine "Kitty" Thomas. He married Emma F. Robertson 28 December 1883 in Nelson Co., VA
Emma F. Robertson was born Abt. 1869 in Marion, Smyth Co, Virginia; died WFT Est. 1887-1953. She was the daughter of Archer T. Robertson and Ann E. Seay.
I can't vouch for the accuracy of this info. Is this the same family and do you have info going further back? Thanks!
Dear Barr, Carroll Surname Listers,
Would greatly appreciate hearing from researchers relating to both surname, as I have really hit the brick wall on each.
My Barr/ Carroll connection is that my great uncle Charles C. Carroll married a Mary Ann
Barr, daughter of Joseph Barr and his wife, Sarah. Joseph, was born in Ireland about
1805, His wife Sarah, born 1810 about in upper New York. Likely Chenango Co.
This Barr family relocated from New York to Pa. sometime around 1845, first settling in
Cherry Twp. Butler Co., Pa in 1850 then moving on to Rome Twp. Crawford,Co. Pa. where they farmed land, where they remained for many years. My brick wall in respect to the Barrs is I can not find any Barr relatives to Joseph and would welcome any help to this end given.
Charles C. Carroll who married Mary Ann Barr Was born in Ontario Canada about 1840. It is believed that his family lived in Upper New York, prior to taking up residence in Ontario, Canada. So, this is my other brick wall trying to fond out anything about his Canadian Family and where they lived in Ontario when Charles was born in 1840.
Charles C. Carroll, prior to his marriage to Mary Ann Barr came back into the Sates from Ontario, Canada, about 1861, joined a New York Regiment and took par in our War between the States. After the War, he traveled To Crawford CO. Pa. where he married Mary Ann Barr on November 19, 1865 at. St.Titus R.C. Church, Titusville, Pa
Would greatly appreciate hearing from any lister ( Barr or Carroll )regarding the above.

I have an ancestor, John Carroll, who was b. Aug. 5, 1795, SC, d. Nov. 1, 1873, Jackson Parish, LA. He was a Methodist minister and a veteran of the War of 1812. His Bounty Land Application and Widow’s Pension Application are on file at the National Archives. His first wife was my ancestor, Susannah Martin, whom he married Jan. 17, 1817, Catahoula Parish. She was born in French Territory probably around 1803 (she married at the age of 14.) I am trying to locate Susannah’s parents.
I have one clue about her parentage. In the 1840 Louisiana Census, Ouachita Parish, is Thomas Carroll, age 40-50, with his family (John Carroll had a brother named Thomas). Next door to Thomas Carroll is Zachariah Martin, age 20-30, living alone. Eighteen doors down is John Carroll, age 40-50, with his family. Also living nearby is Seneca Martin, age 20-30 with a small family, and James Martin, age 30-40 and living alone.
Susannah Martin Carroll’s first son was named Zachariah. Her grandson was Seneca M. Sutton.
I believe all these Carrolls and Martins in the 1840 Ouachita census are related. Is anyone else researching these folks?

Dear Michael,
Roy's father is James Addison Neal B: May 26, 1871 in Chattanooga, TN D: March 27, 1941 Ottawa County, OK. and mother is Leora Carroll B: 1877. I have a copy of James' death certificate and it has his father as Andy Neal born Texas. In James' obit it stated that he had a sister Mary McCulley in Texas.
From what I can tell, James' father Andy died and then his mother, Sara Jane, remarried to an Alex Ferguson. James had 2 sisters, Mary Adeline Neal Ferguson B: 01-19-1865 in TN D: 07-26-1941 in Dallas County, TX. and Sara Neal Ferguson (no dates). Mary married William Robert McCulley 01-12-1880 in Rhea, TN and Sara married John Duckworth 12-23-1886 in Rhea, TN.
Now for Roy's mom Leora Carroll, her parents are Christopher Columbus Carroll (1847-1929) and Mary Jane Essex (1850-1909). They were married 06-06-1867 in Rhea, TN.
Let me know in you find anything or need anything else.
Love,
Carol

I am interested in James (imigrated in 1849) John and Joseph Carroll imigrated early 1850. They stopped in Ohio and Illinois on their way to Kansas. James is found on 1860 census in Marshall Co, Kansas. John is found on census 1860 in Clay Co. Missouri and Marshall Co. Kansas on 1870 census. Children were baptized at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Leavenworth, KS. per 1859 to 1870 records. Joseph isn't found, but it is thought he went to Missouri.

[* shs note - up there where the name of John Carroll is given, that set of
parenthesis has a mark in it - don't know what it means as I didn't check the
front of the book (DUMB!) but many of the names in these records also have
the parenthesis w/a mark in them - not all, but many & I have no idea what
they are - will have to check when I get back to that Library next time as so
they have so many books from so many states there but not found in other
smaller libraries - it may be a brand mark but I really don't know!
That mark for JOHN CARRELLlooks something like a slanted "t" with a slanted
line at the bottom of it.]
From another set of books - these on Rowan Co, NC - wish I had been able to
spend more time looking into those as they looked interesting - I have that
Rowan Co, NC was created in 1753 from Anson Co - the counties made from Rowan

Hello Mike:
You are the first Liverpool connection for the Carroll surname to pop
up. I have a GGF Frank Carroll who was born in 1851 or 1852 in
Liverpool. His parents were from Ireland and that is really all I know
for sure. My GGF named his first son Henry, my GF. So we have assumed
than that my GGGF's name is also Henry. Anyway, we may have a
connection through your GGF Joseph. I have done the Y-DNA test and if
you do it also, we can determine without paper trails if there is a
close family connection. See below links for more information:

My Great-great-grandmother was Elizabeth Carroll, born about 1810. I don't
have her parents, but do know she married Michael Knight around 1830. Their
son James, is my great-grandfather.
He came to the US in 1851, I don't know if he had siblings, and have no
other information on my family in Ireland.
Just thought I would post, perhaps someone would recognize this family.
