The following list of Carroll marriage licenses is taken
from the "Appendix to Thirtieth Report of the Deputy Keeper
of the Public Records in Ireland. It covers the Dublin
Diocese licenses, but who knows who it might help. Since
many of the following were married during the famine, or
just prior to it, I thought it might be useful. Carroll is
one of my family names, so that's why I started with that.

Message Board Post:
Hello. Joseph Carroll is my brick wall and I'm hoping someone has come across his name when researching their family history. Joseph Carroll had 8 brothers and 1 sister and they came to Canada and settled in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Joseph met Martha Meldrum and married her in Toronto on Aug 23, 1887. Joseph was born in Newry Ireland, County of Armaugh on Apr 15, 1860 and he died Sept 24, 1930 and is buried in St Johns Norway Cemetery in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Joseph and Martha had 3 children: Joseph John Carroll (1891-1970), James Henry Carroll (1889-1959), and Emily Jane Carroll (1895-1952). All 3 children are buried in St Johns Norway Cemetery in Toronto, Ontario. I have no way of tracing back further unless I can locate siblings of Joseph Carroll 1860-1930). I don't think 2 of the children, James and Jane ever married. Hopefully someone can help out. thanks !

I was glad to see your posting. Listed in a will of 1827 my ggg-grandparents, Alexander and Lucy Carrell (or Carroll) had a son, Wiley, whom I have not located. I descend from Wiley's brother, Major Hardy Carrell. Alexander and Lucy were married in Sampson County, NC in 1783, and I believe they lived in Chatham Co. around 1820 - adjacent to Wake. I have not researched Chatham yet.
My Wiley would have been too early for your Wiley, but about the right age to be the father or grandfather of your Wiley. (You have his birth date wrong if he was married in 1865 and served in the Civil War.) Since names tend to run in families, Chatham Co. might be an area for you to consider.
Sometimes siblings marry siblings. The sisters of my Wiley married young men from Tedder, Bridges, and Royall families - possible names for the mother or grandmother of your Wiley.
Good luck, and I would like to stay in touch with you as you continue your search.

I'm trying to find any information on an Ellen Carroll who married a Michale McAloon in Connecticut, sometime around 1855ish. They had 3 children in Wethersfield, CT: Julia, Thomas and Edward(?). Michael died sometime in the 1860s and Ellen moved to New Britain, CT and married Thomas Riley 27 Jun 1871 and they had one child Philip Riley.
I'm currently trying to track down a death certificate for Ellen. Her age was all over the map on the census so all I can figure is she was born between 1835 and 1841 in Ireland.
Anyone have any information to share?
Chris

I am still trying to find the parents of my Jeremiah Carroll, it says he was born in New York in 1854. What town? Where did his parents settle? I wonder if he is in this book? MD is not that far from New York! If anyone has the book, would they look up the name for me and see if it is there?
Thanks
Judy

Wow! It didn't dawn on me to narrow the field a little when I posted my earlier message. Our Carroll branch of the family is related to Charles Carroll of Carrollton MD. My Aunt had the book , but one of her children lost the book. My Aunt and Uncles are listed in this Carroll family history but my aunt has brain cancer and cannot remember from whom she purchased the book. Hopefully, this will narrow the responses a little.
To all who responded....thank you so much. It was greatly appreciated.

Hi Cathy,
This is not my direct line, but one LEWIS CARROLL died in Sampsin, NC in 1872. He did not list a son Lewis in his will below, but since names run in families, it would be a good family for you to explore. There are several of us researching the Carrolls about 100 years earlier in Sampson. My interest is Alexander CARRELL m. Lucy Ryal in 1783.
