I have a copy of the book and it's true, there are a few inaccuracies. This was an expansion of a doctoral thesis done by Sr. Virgina Geiger in 1942 when she was at Georgetown. My mother lied to Sr. Virgina about her last name and sent her on a wild goose chase. But I know that she spoke to many, many people personally and the book is as accurate as her sources.
Books sales were mostly to libraries -- you might check Catholic schools or colleges in your area for a copy.

Thanks Andrew. I do not own a copy, but I have access to one. Recently there was one on E-Bay,but I did not find out until it was already sold.
It is a wonderful genealogy effort - but not perfect. It lists Jane Carroll Morley son Thomas O. Morley as childless, and I am here to tell you he was not. It is good to remember that even diligent authors get some things wrong. I think that the "side of the family" that he talked to, either did not have - or did not want to -- provide information on Thomas' family....
Thanks for posting the info, and allowing me to follow up!

Still seeking information on Grandparents. My mother said her father Charles William Carroll was born in Virginia sometime in the 1800's probably 1840-1860, she said he was born in Roanoake or Richmond. His first wife, whos name is unknown to me produced at least one child named Olie Carroll, Olie married Commodore Kelly in Indian Territory in Ada OK on 2/1/1903. Charles William Carroll married my Grandmother Ida Leona Needham around 1920. Ida Leona Needham was born 7/13/1885 in Dyer County TN.The SS death index lists her mothers maiden name as Tucker. Ida had also previously been married to a man whos last name was Nixon and they had at least one child my half uncle Joe or Joseph Nixon. Charles William Carroll and Ida Leona Needham are thought to have been married in Texas as that is where my mother Bertha Faye Carroll was born on 9/22/20, and my Aunt Gertrude Gaye Carroll was born in Dec of 1921. Bertha married a Max Carlisle and they had one son named Charles Clinton Car!
lisle who was born 7/31/39 in Uvalde TX. She later changed her name to Jonny Faye Carroll and Gertrude dropped the name Gertrude and just went by Gaye. Charles William Carroll died in TX sometime in the mid 1930's. Jonny Faye Carroll married Carl Ernest Dinkel in August of 1954 in the state of Missiouri.

Old Citizen Dead
Dr. John S. Carroll, a pioneer citizen of Covington and for many years one
of the city's most prominent men, died at his home here Monday morning at
7 o'clock.
Dr. Carroll's health had been very feeble for several years and a year
and a half ago he was compelled to give up his office. For six months he
had been confined to his house and unable to do anything. His death was
caused from a general let-down.
Dr. Carroll was born in Jackson, Butts county, June 15, 1828 and was
therefore seventy-nine years of age. His father moved to Covington when he
was five years of age where he has since made his home.
He was married to Miss Ann McCrocken of this city and five children of this
union are still living. They are: Mrs. A. Boye, Mrs. J. M. Levy, Mrs. S.F.
He?den and Mrs. Florrie Clark, of Covington. Mrs. Carrie Camp, of Greely,
Col., and Mrs. Robert Colter of Muscogee, Indian Territory.
Dr. Carroll was one of the oldest citizens of the town and had been
prominent in the city's affairs for many years. As a member of the city
council he beautified our streets by planting shade trees on the principal
streets of the town. He was the soul of geniality, a man of unusually pleasant
and friendly manner, an honorable man and good citizen.
The funeral services were conducted from the home of Mr. A. Boyce Tuesday
morning when the Masons took charge of the body and interred it with Masonic
rites.

Need to know what county a town is located?

I caught the tail-end of a query concerning Lucille Carroll and I'm not
certain if my info will help but I have one in our line. Lucille White married
James Robert Carroll in 1928. I have very little info about James Robert Carroll
but I know he was born in 1898 to James Ramsey Carroll and Louise Bershen
Carroll and he died in 1946 in Tulsa Oklahoma. I believe James Ramsey Carroll
was the second husband of Louise but don't know anything about his personal
history. Lucille White Carroll remarried at least twice after James Robert
Carroll but I don't know anything about a Dilbert Green. I don't think the Lucille
Carroll in the query is our Lucille but I would appreciate any input regarding
James Robert Carroll and James Ramsey Carroll if you have it. Thanks for your
help! Lisa Carroll

Hello Martha,
This message does not relate directly to your query but I read your query with great interest.
My wife is a Dawson, born in Ireland. The bit that you may find interesting is that her Grand father was "Edward Carroll Dawson". His father also was "Edward Carroll Dawson", born in Bandon, Co.Cork, Ireland.
His parents were:
Richard Dawson and Mary Carroll, both born in Bandon.
Could this just be a coincidence?
Regards,
Martin
