This is my wife's side of the family. I have just started on this stuff and am not sure of anything yet. But here is what I have.
James Carroll b. 1915 in Tennessee
m. Polly Bethune on Dec 24, 1878 in Arkansas
and died in Jan 7, 1888 in Oklahoma.
Prior to this wife he had another possibly Mahala.
They had 4 children:
Annie, James, Susan and Ada.
In speaking with the surviving family members I've concluded that anything is possible. In other words I'm not at all sure of the spelling of Bethune.
Hope to hear some good news. Thanks.

Chad, do you have any dates or possible dates?
Are you certain about the spelling of her last name?
I think, not positive, but I think you may be talking about one of our line.
I have:
James Morten Carroll, [the son of James Wesley Carroll and Nancy Ann (York)] b. ca 1870-75 in Claiborne Co. TN
married
Mary (Polly) (Bethuren?)
I do not have any other information on her or her family, except that I have another Bethuren female married into our line, in 1808 Margaret Bethuren [b. ca.1792 in NC] married John Miracle, [also b. NC in ca.1788] marriage took place in Lee Co. VA.

After 25 years I have still found no descendants of my ggrandmother's siblings who were born in the parish of Kildorrery, Cork. They seem to have disappeared from Kildorrery as early as the mid 1850's. By 1939, when cousins visited, there were no descendants around. I don't even know which country to search in - Australia? Canada? the United States? I might have missed some siblings who were born before records were kept. Born before 1826 were Denis, Ellen, and Peggy/Margaret Carroll; my ggrandmother V. Ann born 1819; Edmond b. 1827; Catherine b. 1830; Mary b. 1832; Anthony b. 1837. They were the children of Denis Carroll and Magaret Kennedy who were married in Kildorrery in 1813.
It is probable that an Anthony Carroll who married an Eliza Duane in 1825 was a brother to Denis. (Children Anthony, Eliza, Thomas, Edmond, James, John, Bridget, Daniel, David, Timothy, Mary, and Patrick)
The names Cornelius and Winifred were associated names.

This is an old thread but I thought I'd just add a bit anyway.
I also have the Juno Evans Pierce Carroll piece, but I also have updated it extensively with just about every line. However, with regard to the Hammonds, Audrey Hammond m. Wm. Anderson 3 Jan., 1916, is as far down as I've got, so I'd very much like to exchange information.
I posted on the Jernigan board looking for Sarah just a minute ago (see that posting for more info) and left some info, but now that I've read this thread I have thought of some more things.
The farm that Raford originally bought is still in the family. It is in the family of William Raford Carroll's descendants, the Bones. I last visited the farm this spring I believe, but only the granddaughter of one of the oldtimers was at home, and he (Carroll Bone) has long since died. His son lives there now.
In fact they own quite a large amount of land there. I believe it is close to 10,000 acres now.
Anyway, one of our ancestors made, oddly enough, a wreath made out of the HAIR of our ancestors. I've seen it and have a picture of it from a visit in about 1984 when I visited with Carroll Bone. Carroll could partly point out whose hair was whose still. Some of the hair was Sarah Jernigan Carroll's. It is quite an odd thing, but it really is quite beautiful. I wonder if it has disintegrated yet.
I believe they have the original family bibles as well. Next time I go to Vandalia, I'll have to arrange to meet them and see if I can't get their theories on the origins of our common ancestors.
As I mentioned in my posting on the Jernigan, my g grandmother Mary Viola Carroll was raised by Sarah and lived on the original family farm. One of the very old houses is still there but not habitable, whereas the old old original house was across the street from the still existing one and has been gone for decades. There is also a more modern home that serves as the current farmhouse.
Anyway, I just thought I'd add my ramblings for anyone who's interested.

Greg Lamberson

My grandmother, Dorothy Carroll, was born 1894 in Nevada, MO and was adopted by a family in Carthage, MO in 1897.
I believe she had a sister, Lulu, who was also adopted. My grandmother married James Arthur Moore in Carthage in 1914 and they moved out to the west coast. There is a Lulu Carroll living with a Darrow family in the census of 1910 in Shell City, MO. Also, we know her sister moved to the Chicago area after she married. Could this be a connection. You didn't mention dates.

My grandmother, Dorothy Carroll, was born in Missouri (Nevada) in 1894 and was adopted by a family in Carthage, MO in 1897. She apparently had a sister who was also adopted and later moved to Chicago. Her sister was in a serious auto accident in the 50's or 60's. My grandmother married James Arthur Moore in 1914 and they moved to Fresno, CA and Dallas, OR.
Any Connection?
