My Carroll Brickwall
James Carroll known to have lived in Bowling Green, Warren Co KY in 1833 as
that is where and when his son Henry Clay Carroll was born. Have no other
children nor a wife for James. Henry Clay Carroll went from KY to White Co
IL then to Dallas Co MO. With all the James Carroll's floating around I know
this is a needle in a haystack, but one just never knows!!!!!!

This is as far back as I have been able to find.
abstract for the will of Henry Carroll of Rockingham Co. NC.
Henry Carroll died Dec. 18, 1832.
Daughters: Sally Barber, Nancy Overby, Lany (?) M. Carroll
Sons: William Carroll, Daniel Carroll, James Carroll, my wife's son Levin McCollister.
I believe the William mentioned in the will is my William Carroll who moved to McNairy Co. TN between 1840-1850. Census records list his birthplace as NC or DE or MD.
Dear Larry,
I am also looking for a William Carrol. My greatgrandfather, David E.
Steele, married my greatgrandmother, Margaret Ann Carroll, on Aug 21, 1842 in
Saline County, AR., with Justice of the Peace S.T.Collier presiding.
Margaret was born on Jan 27, 1824 and died Mar 22, 1901 in Hill Co, TX.
Margaret was the daughter of William Carroll (b1793?). The 1880 Hill County
TX US Census says Margaret was born in South Carolina and her father was born
in SC and her mother was born in North Carolina.
If you see a William that had a daughter, Margaret, born about 1824, please
write. Thanks.

Thomas Carroll, born 1870 in County Roscommon, son of Thomas Carroll and Catherine Moran. Immigrated c 1890 to NYC area; last known address was Ozone Park in 1938. Looking for descendants.
Catherine Carroll, reputedly born 1875 in County Roscommon, sister to Thomas above. Looking for her birthplace. Townland name is pronounced in Gaelic as "Baleiganeish". Does anyone have any idea what this name could be in modern day English? All efforts thusfar fruitless.

My Carroll Brick Wall.
I am a ggg-grandson of ANTHONY WAYNE CARROLL (or Carrel, 1806-1882) and
Balinda Root, who married in 1826 at Granville, Licking County, Ohio. While
Balinda Root's ancestors can be traced back to John Howland and Elizabeth
Tilley of the Mayflower, Anthony Wayne Carroll's family of origin remains a
mystery. Over thirty years of research has failed to find them. He is said
to be one of perhaps eight children.
Briefly, this is what family legend claims Anthony Wayne Carroll said of his
origins. His father named him after General Anthony Wayne whom he either
admired or served with (or both). His father, name unknown, was killed in
the War of 1812 (who knows which side?), and his mother, name also unknown,
destitute and with eight children to feed, gave Anthony over to a well-off
neighbor who offered to take a boy and teach him a trade. It is said she
lined the kids up along the fence and let the man take his pick. The man
chose Anthony, hoisted the boy into the saddle, and rode off. Anthony, who
was about seven years old, remembered only that the man wore a long black
cape. He also remembered his birthdate as February 20, 1806, born in
western Pennsylvania, and at least how to pronounce his name. What happened
during the next twenty years remains cloaked in mystery. The first official
record found for him is his marriage certificate of 1826, whereupon his
named is spelled Carrel, but ever afterward as Carroll. Whatever happened
to his mother, his bothers and sisters, and even their names, remain
unknown. He apparently never spoke of them to his wife, his eight children,
or his many grandchildren. He probably didn't know. Anthony Wayne Carroll
died in 1882 and is buried at Olathe, Johnson County, Kansas.
I can find only three Carrolls known to have been killed in the War of 1812,
who are Philip Carroll of Ohio, St. Claie Carroll, and John Carroll of
Canada. I suspect Philip Carroll may be the father, as Anthony named his
first son Philip, and there is also an index listing an Estate filing in
Common Pleas Court, Jefferson County, Ohio for a Philip Carroll filed in
1814. Unfortunately the court clerk in Jefferson County cannot find the
Estate records, and NARA cannot find any military records for Philip, so I
am stuck.
His children, all born near Granville, Licking County, Ohio were:
Mary Damaris Carroll (1827-1902) d. Henry County, Illinois
Philip Noble Carroll (1829-1889) d. Licking County, Ohio
Alanson Root Carroll (1832-1907) d. Independence, Missouri
Anthony Wayne Carroll Jr. (1834-1906) d. Kalkaska, Michigan (my
gg-grandfather)
Ellen Belinda Carroll (1836-1904) d. Colorado Springs, Colorado
Moses Carroll (1837-1869) d. Licking County, Ohio
Lydia Theresa Carroll (1839-1911) d. Independence, Missouri
James Dilly Carroll (1845-1883) d. Marshall County, Illinois
If any of this rings a bell with anyone please let me know. Thank you for
taking the time to read this. I would like to find my missing Carroll
roots. They seemed to be English, and Presbyterian, and in the Northeast
(or even Canada), and probably not related to the Irish Catholic Carrolls of
Maryland, etc. I have posted my Carroll GEDCOM at RootsWeb WorldConnect.
Thank you!

I have no hint as to where he was born nor his parents name. My mom thinks my grandmother said the family came from Florida but my aunt says they came from Texas. I have not been able to find his birth in either? Please help if possible. Thanks

My brick wall is William Carroll. Seems there are an awful lot of William, James and John Carrolls. My William was probably born about 1760 to 1770. Wife's name unknown. One son - John - was born 1790 in Tennessee or North Carolina. Second son - Albert - was born 1795 in North Carolina, third son - James was born 1799, in North Carolina. John married Elizabeth (Betsy) Stubblefield in Virginia in 1810, and they eventually moved to Missouri. James married Mary (Polly) Bond in 1820 in Tennessee. They also moved to Missouri. Not much is known about Albert, except that he was living with his parents 20 miles north of Knoxville, TN, in 1835. If you run across the name Albert (possibly Alfred) Carroll/Carrel living with a William Carroll, I would appreciate hearing about it. Thank you,
Larry Carrel
