Subject: [CARROLL] Virginia Carrolls book
The name of the book is "Virginia Carrolls and Their Neighbors 1618
- 1800s"
by Elizabeth Carroll Foster.
I bought mine from Heritage Books when they were in my area at a
Genealogy
Fair. The cost was $24.50.
You can find Heritage Books on the Internet also.
My Benjamin Carroll was born December 25, 1753 in Orange County, NC,
and died
January 31, 1846. He married Nancy Peeler January 13, 1786 in
Orange County,
NC. He was the son of Stephen Carroll, who was born about 1733 and
supposedly immigrated from Ireland with two brothers.
There are lots of other Benjamins in the area of the surrounding
counties.

I believe I have most of the Benjamin Carrolls listed. There are
probably
some that I don't have as I am still working on this.
If anyone has any information on STEPHEN CARROLL above, please,
please let me
know.

Lura,
I don't know if you have received an answer to your question or not but the
FHC acronym stands for "Family History Center(s)". Family History Centers
are found in LDS (Mormon) chapels (and some other facilities) all over the
world and are great places to access the big collection of genealogical
records located in Salt Lake City. All FHCs are free and open to the
public. Check out the one in your location.

John L. Carroll was born on Staten Island, NY on June 14, 1834.
He married Elizabeth Ann Tomlinson on Aug. 15, 1965. She was born in or around St. Louis, MO in 1841. I assume they were married in St. Louis also.
Both John L. and Elizabeth Ann were Catholic. They were the parents of seven children:
William H. b. April 15, 1867
John A. b. Dec. 17, 1869
Agnes M. b. Aug. 8, 1870
Florence M. b. Dec. 10, 1872
Euphemia E. b. Feb. 2, 1875
Elizabeth I. b. Oct. 8, 1878
Rachel A. b. Jan. 17, 1886
I have no idea who John L. Carroll's parents and siblings were. I know his parents came from Ireland.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

In the Stedman Douglas Carroll (1838-1903) Family Bible - written long after
the facts recorded - there is a statement that Richmond Carroll (Stedman's
grandafther) had an Uncle named Grief Carroll - from North Carolina or
Georgia areas.
Does anyone have any information of a Grief Carroll? would have been born in
the 1750s or 1760s.
Thanks

I have the Carroll name on both sides of my family. However I do not think
they are from the same group.
George Carroll 1810-1892 married Catherine Sipes.
Father of Catherine Carroll 1834-1899 married Levi Shaffer
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anna Carroll married Thomas Reynolds 1835-1914
This is all that I have on Anna except that they were of the Roman Catholic
faith.
Would appreciate any leads.

Looking for info on my 2x's great grandfather.
Carroll, Charles M. b. 1828, York, dist. SC.
m DOBSON, Nancy, b. 1825
Charles is on the 1860 census (York, SC) but not the 1870.
According to the rumour he took off for GA. after the Civil War,
leaving his wife and sons, Samuel Bell b. 1848, John E. b. 1852, James H. b.
1855 and my line Euramus or UC b. 1860.
Has anyone in GA. seen this Charles M. after say 1865 or so? He may have
started a whole other family?

A few days ago I asked for information about Demcy Carrel of Duplin County, NC, whom I believed might be the father of my Alexander Carrrell. There were two men by the name of Dempsey Carroll/Carrel of the Six Runs Creek area of Duplin County, NC until 1784 when that area became Sampon County, NC. I have put together the information I have on the older man and the younger man. I see no possibility that the family that was in northern VA and then in KY could be the same Dempsey Sr. and Dempsey, Jr. of Duplin and Sampson Counties.
An older Dempsey/Demey/Demcy:
a.. Estimated birth date between 1690 and 1745, probably around 1725
b.. 1770 and 1778 got land grants
c.. 1789 was exempted from paying poll tax because he was "an aged and infirm man"
d.. 1790 a Demey AND a Demcy Carrol were listed in the US census
e.. 1793 Dempsey Carrell SENIOR and his wife Martha sold land to Alexander Carrell
f.. Estimated death date between 1793 and 1800
A younger Demey/Demcy, or Dempsey:
a.. Was in the Revolutionary War (applied for pension in Alabama for service rendered in Duplin County, NC)
b.. 1801 Alexander Carrell sold land to Dempsey Carrell JUNIOR
There were several other times when a Demey/Demcy, or Dempsey was mentioned, but there was no way of knowing if it was the older man or the younger one.
It is possible Demey/Demcy came into the area as a new immigrant, was born there, or moved there from another area of the colonies. My plan to search - and I ask your help:
a.. Watch the ship lists.
b.. Note families that have the name Dempsey as a given name
c.. Watch very early families as they move about from one place to another
