I am searching for the ancestors and descendants of John Carroll,
c1817-1889.
John Carroll arrived in Sydney, Australia, about 1836 - I have not found the
record of his arrival but I assume he did not swim! In 1846 he married
Catherine Adams who had arrived in Sydney on the 'Aliquis' on 16 March 1839
with her mother and brothers.
John was Superintendent of the Sydney Quarantine Station from 1841-1882.
He died on 2 March 1889 in Sydney. John's death certificate indicates his
father was John Carroll (isn't every male Carroll called John?) and his
mother was Elizabeth Brown. John Carroll senior's occupation is listed as
'merchant'.
I am trying to find information about John's ancestors including his
parents; where he was born - he reported his birthplace as Clare on the
birth certificates of his 12 children but his son, another John who reported
his death, said he was born in Tipperary; when and on what ship he came to
Australia; and the descendants of his children.
I have quite a lot of information about John's life as it is recorded in the
history of the Quarantine Station.
I would be happy to share the information I have about John's descendants.

William CARROLL [abt 1721 - 1771] moved from Frederick Co,MD to Augusta Co
where he was a constable in 1742. His other wife's name was Mary. I suspect
Mary was the first wife.
Jane George married Thomas Carroll and lived in old Augusta Co, VA. Her
father was probably Thomas George, probably born 1695-1700. If Jane was
William Carroll's second wife, her father Thomas George may have been born
a little later. William and Jane Carroll lived in old Augusta County on
what later became the current Rockingham-Shenandoah Co. line
I am seeking further family information.

We are trying to locate information on our grandmother and we have
information she may have been in the Parrish line. We have reason to
believe she may have been conceived illegitimately and placed with
another family to raise. Her marriage license lists her maiden name as
Awalt; however, we have other documents that list her maiden name as
Parrish and/or Paris. Her birth date is also a little mysterious but
she died 8 Dec 1917 and is buried in Holdenville OK. She married Ervin
Linker in Pope County Arkansas on 19 Oct. 1895. They produced 9
children: Robert Howard, b1895, Lee J, b1898, Mae, b1901, Retha
Priscilla Frances b 1903, Blanche b1906, Andy b1909, Harold b1911,
Gladys Emma b1914, Clyde b1917.
We also believe her to have been a school teacher. We have literally
run into a brick wall in attempting to determine anything about her. If
anyone has a Parrish person similar to Lannie/Dalania, please share your
info.

Hi, I'm new to the list, and looking for my great-great-grandmother.
Maria CARROLL married Joseph CAMPBELL, 7th batallion Royal Artillery, in St
Peter's parish, Athlone on 12 April 1842. Witnesses Richd. Matthews and
Anne Sweeney, chaplain/clergyman Revd S Murray.
In later censuses, Maria stated her birthplace as Stradbally / Queens
County [Laois], with an approximate birthdate of 1821. Known children:
Joseph and William.
Does anyone have any information on her family origins, or suggestions
about where I go from here?
Duncan
Greetings:
My personal interpretation of this announcement would be that Helen Carroll
joined her father in Briedewater in 1884, he moving there in 1883. His Cook
county reference though is probably to his brith place in Ireland, and
either the dates are misleading and not meant to be births, or they are
husband and wife or sister and brother if they are, but you said they had
been around (as adults?) earlier. I would take it as a moving announcement,
and see if they are in the SD census for 1890 and where you might find them
cenus-wise 1880...Gazetteers, etc.
Have you tried a Bridgeare census to see if they moved into Bridgewater
around that time?
Cheers

The information you're offering, Jill, is the same (I believe) as that
on the Carroll Family Tree at my workplace, the Howard County Historical
Society, for everyone who has asked for a look-up. I'll be doing those
today so if I didn't answer your message, know that I will be doing so
later this week. I have a conference to go to tomorrow out of town so if
it isn't until Saturday or sunday, please forgive me.
Take care.

Good afternoon all,
I found a strange note in my family papers and maybe one of you out
there can help me straighten it out:
"1884 Helen Carroll d 1957, her father Joe Caroll, 1883 b Cook County
Ireland. Moved to Bridgewater S.D."
Now obviously if Helen was born in 1884, it's hard for her father to be
born in 1883. Perhaps it's 1863?
I have no idea who either Helen or Joe are. My family tree doesn't list
anyone in South Dakota, and they were already here from Ireland prior to
the 1880's.
So please if any of you know who these people are, I'd love to hear from
you and sort out how we are related.
Thanks,
Julie

Hello,
I don't post often to the list, but I feel I might be of some help in
the Daniel Carroll research being done by some of you. I have a
document written by my historian brother, Tom Carroll, in which he has
compiled several sources. He traces from OLOILL OLUM, king of Munster
in Ireland through Daniel Carroll of Litterluna and Daniel Carroll of
Annapolis to his son, Thomas Mitchel Carroll - age 3. He provides some
historical info as well as the decendents. His mailing address as well
as his email address is provided at the bottom of this Word. document.
I'm sure he would be more than happy to help.
Hope this might help some of you. Jill (Carroll) Horne.

I am a new subscriber to the Carroll list and am researching my ggg
grandfather, Phillip Carroll b. 1805 in North Carolina. He married
Priscilla Slaughter in 1842 in Winston Co., Miss and they had 8
children: Priscilla, John Thomas, Isaac, Clementine, Mary Magdaline,
Lydia, Ella, and Anna. Phillip was known at "The General". I have a
newspaper article showing his daughter, Ella, celebrating her 100th
birthday. She is holding a cloth resembling a flag which is signed by
George Washington. The article notes that her grandfather served under
George Washington. I have no documentation of this, however. Any
information on this family would be greatly appreciated.

I also have Carrols in Virginia;
This is what I have. I have not been able to find where my John William
Sr. family was from, but I have wondered if they were connected to the
Maryland family as we also have a Carrollton in Virginia, although it is
not in Sussux Co, but in Isle of Wight were my family of Carrolls lived
in the late 1800's. Any connection to your Virginia Carrolls? I also
know there was a family of Carrolls in Lynchburg, Va but have not had
time to look into them. Hope Stanley in Norfolk,VA

Lynne, this is some very interesting information
about the Howard Cty. Society.
Now, how can we CARROLL researchers who
live 2000-3000 miles away get access to it?
Do they have a web access? What about joining
the Society?
A lot of our CARROLL families have a belief that
they are descendents of Charles CARROLL.of
Carrollton. Any further information you can pass
along to us will be much appreciated, I'm sure.

Many, many thanks to all who responded to my query on the book,"Daniel
Carroll" by Sr. Virgina Geiger. It is our belief that 'our' Carrolls`
came to Nova Scotia(and none to the States),from the village of Drum,Co.
Tipperary. We know that Daniel E.Carroll came over 'as a young man' and
that his date of birth was 1840-son of Daniel Carroll and Ellen
Kearns,he married in Halifax,N.S.in 1876 to Mary(Maria) Butler.
Thanks once again to all and good luck on your own searching endeavors-
Gale(Carroll) Davison
In the book which I cited for Gale Davison's request is a very extensive
family lineage. At the Howard County historical Society we have a VERY
LARGE family tree which, although copying is physically very difficult,
can be accessed for citiation.
Good luck.
