Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I am searching for the parents of JESSE WILLINGHAM CARROLL. He was born
somewhere in Georgia probably Newton County around 1800? Jesse later married
Easter Hester Vineyard around 1829. This family later moved to Coosa County
Alabama. There were Carrolls all over the place in Georgia during the early
1800's but probably not many JESSE WILLINGHAM CARROLLS. Does this name sound
familiar to anyone.Please Help!
RUSSELL.
I appreciate the warnings, I have had the happy virus accidently sent to me
and was luckly enough to be warned about it before I opened it. When
people send out this type of e-mail it only means that they care about their
fellow researchers.

Please all be aware, someone posing as a person who delete the HAPPY and
HAPPY99 virus is actually sending it out in the so called fix. I got a HAPPY99
and immediately deleted it as well as ran PCCIllian and McAffee . I had to go
to the McAffee site to get the newest .DAT files . If you can afford it buy it
and get Web Scan. You never will get anymore virus's. Luckily enough I didn't
get it on my laptop.
To all be Aware of any noncommercial person trying to cure it!!!!!!!!!!

It seem to me that virus warnings are usually banned from lists. An
inordinante amount of server time and space is taken up with this - I hope
the moderators will encourage virus discussion to be taken off-list...All
the gossip and worries about it by people who haven't got it are a little
much - like any virus, keep an eye out for it and delet it if it shows up.

Hello Listers,
I am forwarding this information from one of my other lists. The worm
seems to be rampant on many other lists also, causing a lot of grief.
Luckily I have not had it and check everyday to make sure I've not
accidentally received it. The main thing to remember is the person
sending it doesn't even know that they have it. I saw a lot of flaming
and one person quitting a list over this.

Good Morning Everybody, this WORM has been rampant on several lists I
belong to, I was fortunate in that I got onto it early and found the
removal procedure and was able to assist . As the site was hard to get
onto I copied the information. I would suggest that you all run this
program just to make sure as you can be infected with the worm without
realising it. But more importantly UPDATE your anti Virus prog's
this one will be listed as Happy 99.....and 99exe.....SKA.exe
Kind Regards
Shalom
Trisha
Subject: REMOVING Happy99
Removal Steps marked optional are not absolutely necessary and are
completely safe to skip.
Click Start, then Shut Down, then "Restart Computer in MS-DOS mode",
then click Yes.
At the DOS prompt type this exactly and press enter at the end of
each line:
CD \WINDOWS\SYSTEM If your Windows folder is not called WINDOWS then
substitute the name of your Windows folder instead, for example: CD
\WIN95\SYSTEM
Delete SKA.EXE and SKA.DLL by typing
DEL SKA.EXE
DEL SKA.DLL
If you get "File not found" you're either not infected or in the
wrong directory.
Make sure you're in your Windows System directory; check to see if
you followed step 2 exactly.
Copy WSOCK32.SKA to WSOCK32.DLL by typing COPY WSOCK32.SKA
WSOCK32.DLL Answer "Yes" if it asks if you want to overwrite
WSOCK32.DLL.
Explanation: WSOCK32.SKA is a backup of the original WSOCK32.DLL
made by the virus. You are replacing the modified DLL with the
original.
Optional Delete WSOCK32.SKA
by typing
DEL WSOCK32.SKA
You can leave WSOCK32.SKA on your system.
It is a copy of your original WSOCK32.DLL Return to Windows by
typing EXIT Optional: Click Start, then Run, then type regedit in the
text box, then click OK. Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then Software, then
Microsoft, then Windows, then CurrentVersion. Under RunOnce check for
SKA.EXE and select it if it is there. Press delete and then click Yes.
Close Regedit. Don't change anything else without making a backup of
the registry first. If you don't find SKA.EXE in the registry, it
doesn't mean you're not infected. SKA.EXE is only added to the
registry if HAPPY99.EXE is unable to modify WSOCK32.DLL when you run
it. Optional: Choose Start, Programs, Accessories, Notepad, choose
File, then Open then type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\LISTE.SKA in the File Name
box. Warn the people on the list, then delete LISTE.SKA.

Folks, this fellow evidently has some sort of problem with Census
Microfilm Expeditors, but I have purchased microfilm from them and have
had nothing but good results, and service. I have ordered film that was
not available immediately and was sent a voucher to return on the next
order for my film. I recieve a wrong film once and I emailed them and
they told me all I had to do was send it back with the correct film #
and they would send me the right one. They did, and I am happy.
I think he should be trying to work it out with the company and not be
flooding the mailing lists.

I got this from a totally different list I subscribe to...it tells how to
determine if you are 'infected' with the virus, and how to get rid of it.
Hope this is helpful.
Also, DO NOT EVER open an attachment called HAPPY99.EXE!!!! This is a
virus!

I am researching Carroll, but I did not send the virus. Is this message
aimed at all researching Carroll? I think everyone on this list is
researching Carroll, right? I guess I thought the virus was sent as an
attachment to an e-mail message, and I thought that rootsweb didn't allow
attachments. Did the person just send it to you, or to the whole list? I
don't have any problems with my computer...I didn't get the virus.
I hope this message isn't accusing all who are researching CARROLL.

I should have made note of the address, but someone with the subject line
"CARROLL" sent the virus that has been damaging computers. I did not download
it but in my anger deleted it. Just in case the person is writing to other
Carrolls I wanted to alert you. Jan
Listers:
Is anyone here searching a CARROLL line from Canada (or, rather, Ireland to
Canada and then maybe beyond)? I see lots of eastern and mid- US posts but
none for New Brunswick, PEI, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and then (next
generations) perhaps west into Wisconsin and Minnesota or into Manitoba and
BC.
I have lots of NB stuff I could share.

My Grandfrather's Great Grandfather (!) was John G. WHITNAH who married Mary
Ann CARROLL, probably from West Virginia as well as he. She was born 24 FEB
1804. I am looking up the CARROLLs, as, b3esides their connection to my
family, the WHITNAHS have carried the surname CARROLL along their male lines
to keep the name active, as they do in the family. John and Mary Ann's son
Eli Carroll WHITNAH named one of his sons CARROLL, and Eli's other son,
Charles, named his son, my grandpap, Carroll Henry Whitnah. I would love to

Seeking any information about Allen Alford CARROLL (b 12-18-1806 d.
8-19-1848) and wife Jane Osborne JONES (b. 6-04--1804 d. 11-17-1847).
Parents of Samuel Thompson CARROLL b. 11-29-1831 in La Grange, Fayette Co.,
TN. Allen Alford CARROLL listed in 1830 Harden County Tennessee Census.
Myra, I have Mary Darnall's date of birth as 1678 (wife of Charles the
immigrant). Also I have the spelling of the Digges family who are so
related to both Carroll branches with the "e".
