Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Good morning Folks:
The following messages probably explain better than I can, at the
moment, some information that just became available to listowners
like myself. I wanted to get this to you as soon as possible, so I
am forwarding this, rather than trying to paraphrase it. Especially
since we have just learned of it.
In a nutshell, RootsWeb has accepted Palladium as a sole
"corporate sponsor". We do not have much of an idea as to what
that really means as yet.
Brian and Karen seem to be "assuring" us that the operation will continue
under their management pretty much as in the past.
I intend to continue dealing with our lists pretty much as I have in the
past and hope that this infusion of badly needed financial help bodes
good for all the genealogical community that are so dependent on the
RootsWed operation.
Hang tough!

Sorry--ours is Daniel E Carroll from Co. Tipperary--he & sisters only
came to Nova Scotia in mid 1800`s.--G.Davison
My interest in Carroll is as follows: I had gg grandparents Nancy Carroll
and Samuel McFarland. They were married 6 Mar 1820 in Washington County,
Maryland. They had children named John, James, Sam, Arthur, Charles, Ann,
Maggie and Mary McFarland. Mary McFarland was born on 6 Sep 1829 in
Hagerstown, Maryland.
It is possible that Samuel was son of Samuel McFarland b 1785 in Ireland,
and Jean. However, my mother's notes say he was the son of a John McFarland.
I've been able to find nothing about Nancy Carroll except the above, which
is the reason for this post. Can anybody help?

Sorry to report that I am unable to help you at all.My

on future searching.-Gale Davison
There have been a few instances where RootsWeb has found
it necessary to cut-off an ISP because they were a frequent
source of spam and didn't seem to want to do anything about it.
This sometimes becomes necessary to protect system hardware,
- Remember Maiser.
So, if any of you should get caught in such a crunch, that is if
you are cut-off the list because your ISP is blocked, send me a
direct note and I will work the problem directly to keep you on
the List.

I should probably knock on wood before I discuss this, but our
Family Discussion List has been relatively free of spam
and spammers.
A number of the surname lists, however, seem to have been
bothered quite a lot by them, generating a good bit of discussion
between listowners as to how to best deal with them.
Briefly, if we do receive any unsolicited commercial or otherwise
annoying advertising sent through the List, I will take whatever
action is possible.
It seems to be generally recommended that we do NOT respond
individually to the spammers when they state that you can contact
them with a request that you not receive any further messages.
Seems that some of the more imaginative spammers use this
technique to gather addresses - then the people who do respond
really get the message.
So, best advice seems to be - just delete the spam message.

Listowner, Phillips and Carroll Lists
I'm looking for information on Mary (Polly) Carroll from NC. I believe that
she was born in Burke County, NC circa 1810. She married George Howard Ward
on April 2, 1829, in Habersham County, GA. They appear in 1840 and 1850 on
the Union County Census. In 1840 they appear in household #168 and a
William Carroll appears in household #167. I'm SPECULATING that William and
Mary may be brother and sister. They are no longer next door neighbors on
the 1850 census, but are still in the same county.
The George Ward family is listed as George - 40, Mary - 40 - born NC, Sarah
Ann - 20, Vanwert - 17, Manda -13, Monroe (actually Minerva) - 12, Martin -
10, Samuel - 8, Livona (called Mary Ann in other documents) - 5, and Sabra -
3. George and all the children appear to have been born in GA. Their
daughter Louisa Jane had already married Samuel Trout and started her own
family nearby. Sarah later married James Mitchell. Van Velt Ward m. Elmira
Long on Sept. 30, 1854 in Union County, GA. Van's other wives included
Kalena Bradley and Mary Israel. Amanda Melvina Ward m. Jessie Champion
Wood(s) on July 14, 1853 in Union County, GA. Minerva Cherokee Ward m.
Ezekiel Miller. Martin Cicero Ward m. Sarah Blevins 1857 in Delaware
District, Cherokee Nation, IT. Samuel Foster Ward m. Malissa Blevins.
Sabra Elizabeth Ward m. Ezekiel Fields.
The William Carroll family is listed as William - 43 - born NC, Sarah - 39 -
born NC, Edith - 73 - born NC, Augustus - 11, Angeline - 10, William - 8,
Charles - 4, and Samuel - 1. All the children appear to have been born in
GA.
I would love to hear from you if you know anything about my GGG grandmother,
Mary Carroll, or her family.
Thank you,
Carol Mosher
