Good job, Lura! Thanks for taking the initiative to contact Sean.
I joined a discussion group for the descendants of Thomas and Betty
Estridge/Estes about a year and a half ago because I discovered they had my fourth
great grandfather, Michael Carroll, on their website. After further inquiry and
debate, I decided that Michael's wife was the widow of their Thomas Estes
(who was convicted of treason as a Tory at the end of the Revolutionary War),
and eventually proved it after a trip to the North Carolina State Archives.
Then, about three weeks ago, a woman joined the discussion group after
apparently having seen the Carroll references, and said she was a descendant of
Stephen Carroll of North Carolina. Any of you who have ancestors from North
Carolina are probably familiar with his will and that of his son, Benjamin, that
are in several places on the Internet. I had once contacted a descendant of
Stephen (Lura, I think you alerted me to her), but she was in extremely poor
health and never got back to me on some questions I had. So I immediately
contacted this woman, exchanged information and obtained her descendancy, and
suggested that she have a male relative submit a DNA sample for our project.
She was very interested in it and I just sent her some information,
instructions, and suggestions this week. This could be a big help, at the very least, to
all of the North Carolina participants.
I say all that to say this-let's keep on recruiting and being alert to
opportunities to involve more people.
Thanks,
James Carroll
