I agree with Charles and Linda!!
I also understand some of the limitations. Perhaps first and
foremost right now in the minds of many is the cost of having
more markers tested. Each of us must live within the constraints
of our budget, but if we have invested some money into this game,
we need to get as close to the goal as possible.
I keep thinking of the fact that if we, whose ancestors rode
their covered wagons through Sampson/Duplin County, NC about
1790, hadn't tested all the way to 67 markers, we would not have
been able to say beyond a shadow of a doubt that we were related.
We are the only Carrolls (who have tested to 67 markers) who have
the NULL value at DYS 425. I think 67 markers are essential.
But along with Charles, I would like to see the GEDCOM file
uploaded to FTDNA to try to find the common ancestor among those
who have already been proven to be related by the DNA. This
gedcom file is not shown in a public chart such as our CARROLL
chart at FTDNA or that colorful one showing groups which match
kept by Kevin. It only is visible to those persons FTDNA has
determined to be DNA matches to the donor, and the gedcom file is
only shown on a secure website. (Notice the padlock icon at the
top of the page.) The general public can never see your mother's
maiden name or other, perhaps secret, information from that .ged
file.
Some of you haven't even sent that male surname lineage to Kevin
yet. That is a slightly more public display of information, but
please, at least give the earliest of your known ancestors. All
of us want to find information someone else has chosen to share,
but for some reason many aren't willing to help others by sharing
their own information.
This mystery game of genealogy is not a game with only one
winner. In this game the more we help other people, the more we
progress toward our own goal.

| Charles,
| What is REALLY needed is for all the DNA project participants
to do the 67
| marker test! That REALLY advances the project. 25 and 37
marker tests don't
| narrow the search very well.
