I would like to express appreciation to some of you who are serving as
anonymous sponsors for some of our DNA tests being done. That is
making it possible to make connections that might not be known
otherwise.
I'm advertising now to try to find a descendant of James Carroll who
married Rhoda STEVENS (or STEVENSON) of Johnston County, NC in 1792.
Most of their children moved to Dale or Pike County, AL. We have a
sponsor for that test if we can just find a donor. Do you know anyone
who can show documentation that he is from this family? If so please
let me know.
Is there anyone on this mail list who descends from the Isle of Wight
County, VA, Carroll family that was in the colonies before 1700? It
has been suggested by some that the Johnston County, NC family and
even the Sampson County, NC families were descendants of that family.
At the present time I do not yet have a sponsor for that test.
I thought you might like to know that another DNA sample has been sent
in to FTDNA that should come back to match the CARROLLS from Sampson
County, NC. Yet another kit has been ordered that should also be
orange.
There are many more family lines we need to get, but even what we have
now should give a pretty good base with which folks can compare in
years to come. Those of you who have been tested should feel good
about being the first generation to be DNA tested for genealogy. You
are helping to establish the norms that will be taught to your
children and grandchildren in college biology.
I have a Carroll family reunion on Sunday - just the descendants of my
grandparents. Someone has defined a family reunion as an effective
form of birth control.
